I wouldn't use a carlton box, it will be far too long legged for what you want to use it for.

Im pretty sure bellhousings to run ford gearboxes are easy to source as loads of rally boys use that setup, so hopefully you wont have to change your gearbox as well.

Example..

it will work, and it won't break.

my mate has a robin hood, with all sierra parts. i'm trying to get him to fit a XE aswell lol

what box are you running? i remember that the old type box of a carb'd sierra fitted, but the box from a 2.0i sierra was too wide

Definitely around as a type 9 bellhousing and an adapter for torque tube is what simps is planning to run :) When he finally stops spending money on flights and starts it that is lol

Question 1: Will this work? yup
Question 2: Will it stand the power yup
Question 3: Is there a Better way to do it? yup type 9 with a yukspeed or sbd bellhousing. means you can either tilt it 7 deg or run it straight.
Question 4: What clutch + fly do I use? carly box, std fly and plate, t9 ford centre irrc and an xe fly.
And Question 5: Do we need to do anything else??? prop? spigot bearing? mounts? injection setup?;) also finding a carly box thats cable is hard mate.

Cheers Dan.

Whats the issue?

Inlet maifold, alternator location, exhaust, having to cut parts of chassis, runing no servo, and having to make a new pedal box :/

Pluss all the other obvious stuff!

if you consider that tons of westies & caterhams are running Xe power, and the fact that the pinto is huge, i can't see what the problem is.... if you want xe power, then it will take a bit of work, but not massive work... you already have the gearbox, so b/h adaptor & some mounts & job is 90% done..

fitting a zetec will be just as much money...

why not find a 2.0 granada/sierra twincam engine????

because the I4 is a heavy lump and tuning parts are hard to find. A Zetec or XE is a much cheaper option, although it is the same lump found in the Mk5/6 RS2000 with 150bhp out of the box if you can find a good 'un.

Inlet maifold = run carbs
alternator location = alt can be put anywhere...
exhaust = easy to make, ebay flange ftw
having to cut parts of chassis = so long as you replace it strongly, its fine.
runing no servo = meh man up!
and having to make a new pedal box = buy one
Pluss all the other obvious stuff! = like? :)

Inlet maifold, TB's!alternator location Easy, exhaust, duh having to cut parts of chassis a minor issue, granted, runing no servo it's a track car, man up! ;p, and having to make a new pedal box :/ Must be plenty around to fit kit cars

Pluss all the other obvious stuff!

if it were me, i would keep the type 9 box, and get the bellhousing.
if i hadnt of found the manta box, i would of gone type 9.
so many more advantages with a T9.

Rob: its not as easy as it looks, was only asking what box to use any way, Zetec might be a much easier option.

Mk999: its has to pass a IVA yet and its a road car which has to be reliable and useable, don't really want to run carbs, tb would be nice but a bit out of our price range!

BMW156: yeah thats the mox likely plan for what ever we do :D
