Fitted my VX220 dash today. Got alot of things working, but some errr, not lol

Struggling with the indicators. Cant get the green telltale light to flash. Got the main beam by accident!! So that works!

Fuel gauge. Telling me i have a full tank. But i know for sure i dont!

Rev counter works, but is bouncy. Not sure if this is because it has a dodgy connection or because newer cars dont use a dizzy??

I know one or two have these dashes fitted. Any ideas?

Also transducer...gen me up. Which type? Digi dash, 1.poo Nova?

TBH Loggyboy linked me up to the wiring diagram. Followed it, but struggled on the above items.

I think you might be right about the fuel thing!

I found this that Loggyboy posted if any good just in case you see anything different. CLICKY (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105081&highlight=vx220+dials) Sorry if you've already read it btw.

im sure stu mentioned something about these needing inputs from the orig ecu, it may be worth pm'ing him.

Cheers southie. TBH i got the wiring daigram from loggyboy over on mig. Stu pointed him in the direction. It has helped no end. Just stumped on the above items really.

Rob, shall PM now. Ta.

the revs will come as a nice clean square wave from the ECU..... off the dizzy wont cut it im afraid.

fuel gauge works the opposite way round, plus it will trip to 'full' when over 32L (depending how full your tank is and how well setup the float is.

the rest I'll look at later

Cheers Stu. Much appreciated. So i need a feed from the ECU to get the revs to be stable. Hmm, shall look into that.

Here Pete this also may help :)

AFAIK I have the last of his current stock of of pulse converters. (shortly to be used to convert my VX220 speedo). But he will be preparing a new batch that will also have an output for a shift light built in

So is the coolant temp working, or just appears to work?

Pistol Pete

lol the symbol lights up when the ignition is switched on. Isnt connected to anything though.

Stuart

Thats coolant level warning :p Just ground the wire for that.

I mean the engine temp wont be right unless you have a MK4 astra ecu fitted ;)

Pistol Pete

**** having the engine temp then lol not buying a mk4 astra ECU!! So how do others get round it?

I am **** with electrics BTW. My mate is doing all of it, but hit abit of a wall. Hence the questions.

Dumb down any answers please lol

Stuart

No other way round it..... well unless you make a nice electronic box to convert the temp sensor output to the input the dash wants.

wiring things up is a piece of piss ;) lol

so in short you need a MK4 astra ecu (or a vx220 one) for the engine temp.
A abs sensor to square pulse convertor for the speedo
A pulse convertor for the dizzy to Tacho.
Ground the airbag, coolant level and possibly the ecu lights, oh and the abs one.
wire the indicators appropirately.

pretty much done ish

Kind of what i already know!!

Temp sensor..not fussed. Getting a pulse convertor for the speedo off Dom from MIGweb. No other way of doing the rev counter??

Still stuck with the indicators though....

H1.19... two wires, one needs to be +ve, the other grounded.

Pistol Pete

What are the codes on the hack of the dash?

So you had a mk4 ECU wired in as Stu mentions then??

Stuart

ECU, not dash

I never wired up my coolant. I added a seperate temp gauge.
Fuel gauge I left in its reversed state as i never used the car regularly, just blats, and autosolos.
Everything else that was inportant (speed, revs, warning lights) worked fine.

Pistol Pete

Might do the same re temp gauge.

I'll re-check the wiring we have done and the wiring diagram.

Thanks for the help.

does anyone know if every MK4 ECU works or if it has to be from a Z22SE or Z20LET
