my nova has just destroyed 3rd gear for the 3rd time, i was runnin f20s, is there any differances if i was to get a f16? ie would i still be able to use the same clutch as the f20, as its had a new paddle clutch recently and if i gotta change the clutch i may aswell go f28. also is there much differance in strength from f20 and f16? what other boxs could i use that wouldnt mean changin to a f28? also does anyone have or know of a cheap f20 localy to me? cheers in advance :thumb:

as John said, for long term reliability an F28 is the best option, otherwise you will continue changing shonky old F20s

Go f28 fella.
yea i wanna eventually but at the mo i havnt got the funds as goin on holiday next week. ideally i want a straight cut f20, but they go for big money.
do you strip & service the boxes then re fill with fresh 80w90 gear oil? or just bang them in with a topup?

i put new gaskets/seals in them and use a good quality gear oil, the 1st 2 that went i had a atb diff in and were in my astra gsi, but this time i never got round to gettin the diff in as only really just got the engine in my nova.
you must be very unlucky with your boxes

yea i think i am as my mate was runnin 318bhp in his mk2 astra turbo and never had any box problems, im only runnin about 280bhp and seem to be goin through them. i have only paid 50quid for each box so its not 2 bad yet, think i will get 1 more then look at f28 or straight cut f20.
i honestly think a vectra 2.0 f23 would mount up.
this one, look at teh mount.

funny thing is i had to put a new engine in a 2.0dti zafira the other day and noticed the same thing, as far as i could tell all holes are the same places, starter looks to be the same aswell, only thing was it was cable change. there was a bit in tv this month about specky usin a f23 and the ratios wernt right, he done a top speed run and done 178mph in 4th iirc. 5th is to long i think.
