I recently fitted a new (2nd hand in good condition) distributor for my 1.2. The problem is that I experience judder when flooring it in 4/5th gears between 40-60mph. Its usually worse on uphil gradients. At low speeds the accelleration seems fine.

Does this sound like the timing is too advanced? I did notice that one of the return springs had been deliberately removed from the weights on my old distributor.

Anyone had similar problems or know of any remidies?

My engine spec is as follows:

1990 1.2,
4 to 1 manifold
Standard exhaust (hoping to replace soon)
Twin choke weber.

vacuum ignition advance. Thats what mine was like. Check it on the dizzy by sucking the flying saucer on top. If you can suck through it is is no good. if there is resistance and the dizzy internals move it is ok.

If your old dizzy vacuum advance didn't work then the timing may have been adjusted to suite but now with a new dizzy has messed it up.

get the timing done and check the vacuum unit.
