ive got a set of speedlines im refurbing and want to take them back to clean alloy, has anyone had experience of using nitromors on alloys? shot blasting is out of the question as i had my audi wheels done and there mega rough now, nowhere up here does acid dipping and nowhere local does soda blasting either,
any suggestions?

Do it

Works wonders

Read the tin properly, leave it on for a little while, scrape off paint with a credit card or the like and voila

You might want to try paramose instead its cheaper and more fluid (not as gloopy) Not tried it on alloys but stripped most other things with it.

run over them quickly with some sandpaper/emery 1st. Nitromors will eat into the paint far more effectively if it is keyed 1st, otherwise you end up going back 2 or 3 times on that patches that didnt peel.

these are the wheels i have, as you can see they have been done a couple of times so i want them totally clean to the alloy before i start

Works fine on paint (as long as its not acrylic/rattle can as i found out on my cesaro's, with that it just goes wattery. Ended up having to submerge part of the rim in 2 gallons of petrol and scrub with a scotch brite pad, not fun!)

With an allessio2's i refurbed for my cousin i found it just wasnt harsh enough to eat into the original speedline powdercoat, kinda reacted with it, but no where near enough to remove it sadly.

Id also like to know an easier solution, (on my speedlines i flatted the std powdercoat, etched, high build primed and flatted, base then lacquer.) And i was very generous with the ammount of coats, so for a colour change, i think bare alloy is the only way for these ones...

i have found that even with industrial stripper its not enough to get of the factory coat of primer.

had my fooked SR alloy dunked at work, and there were patches where the primer was on.

but nitromorse will be fine :)

why dont you just have them shot blasted it only cost 20 quid a rim around here

Shot blasting is fine for powder costing them but leaves the surface to rough for painting. I had my audi wheels shot blasted and didn't like the result, maybe bead or soda blasting would be kinder to the wheel surface

for shot blasting it needs to be fine shot or soda or else it just pits the alloy it doesnt matter if it is too rough a bit of p180 then p240 abit of etch two good coats of high build jobs a good one

When i stripped a set two had been painted green and two were silver, the green came off very easy with Nitromors but the original powder coat was a struggle, after three goes I gave up and took them for blasting, including the caps it cost me forty quid and there wasn't a trace of paint left anywhere, as has been said after a quick flat off and then some etch, a copy of coats of high build primer they were smooth and ready for colour

if you use playsand for blasting wheels it leaves alot smoother serface

Let us know if u manage to find anywhere in scotland to do them, soda blasting is the prefered method from what ive seen (company advertising at billing had lots of examples including a shell, pannels, a plastic bumper with half soda blasted, looked just like the orignial plastic)

It will strip wheel paint but will take forever, especially if it's factory paint. Trust me, I tried to strip the cav fanblades for my dad. I finished half a tin of nitromoors to do it and it took hours.
