to buy for my Specialized hardrock sport 08. I snapped the originals on a jump - halfords replaced them with a pair i found on ebay for £5 luckly they fit, I am clueless about it all. I need some new half decent forks as these are Crap!!! lol my budget is around £100 so some sugestions will be great also the sizes and all that Thanks Lads +rep for help lol:thumb:

How long does the steerer need to be ?

I have a brand new pair of Rock Shox that I would sell for £40

you need mazzochi dirt jumper 2 or 3 models, even the old ones are good and cheap on the bay, and are very hard to snap, have used them on ALL my race bikes since the late 90s!!

Do you have v brakes or discs fitted as youre bike looks like it may have come wih v brakes?

Spend alittle more and get a slightly better pair that will last longer and ride better!

i remember when bomber z1's were the shockers to have, but that was a good few years back and they keep changing their names etc.

but as above, id spend more and have something that wil last abit longer. i dont know what there like now, but the likes of RST forks, used to be cheapo and aways break, rock shox, marzocchi, pace, fox etc are all good brands

i'd go marzocchi, especially if you've snapped a fork already. they're pretty bombproof and will not need serviced nealr as often as anything else.

it'll be a 1 1/8 steerer tube you need. you'll need to check the new fork has v-brake lugs if you're running v brakes as most new forks come without these now.

i usually buy from chain reaction or merlin cycles and occasionally wiggle or winstanleys bikes. all online.

you could also buy second hand from the likes of ebay or gumtree. if going 2nd hand though you will need to measure the lengnth of your forks steerer tube and make sure not to buy any fork with a shoter steerer than you have.

also try and get forks with the same amount of travel. you could go up an inch in travel but to much and the bike wont ride nicely as you'll have slackened the headtube angle.

edit. what kind of riding do you mostly do??

It's hard to believe I used to read MTBUK etc. I haven't got a clue now. lol

Still got my old MTB with crappy Rock Shox Jett's. lol

without knowing what kind of riding you do and if you dont mind buying 2nd hand its hard to recommend anything specific

L14mnp, jett's wernt that bad for there time to be fair. 10 years ago there wasnt as big a difference between a cheap fork and an expensive one as their is now imo.

that would make a lovely riding bike but SID world cups aren't anywhere near £100lol
rockshox new stuff is very good but would be way over op's budget.

Can you measure the steerer length you need ?

From top of the stem to the bottom of the head tube on the frame

Looks like the ones I have will fit with ease tbh

i dont think dart 3s will be much stronger than the forks you had to be honest.
you also want to be thinking how you snapped them. did you come up short on a jump, i.e smashing the front wheel into the back of the landing. or did it break from a normal landing, just to much force for it to handle. most forks will only take bad landings so many times and i doubt its doing your frame or headset any good either.

for 100 you want to go 2nd hand.

It was a bad lading I sort of nose dive'd into the floor lol and snapped the brace that holds each side together. lol yeah my headset keeps coming loose i have to go to halfords to get them to sort it out lol lucky i got £18 a year free survice's lol but i thinks its to do with the crapy forks that are on now i dont even think their a real make lol

G-nova
10-09-10, 12:29 AM
not loose turning wise but when i hold the front break their is play in the headset.

grooge
10-09-10, 12:55 AM
if you keep doing this you'll ovalize your headtube and then its new frame time. tightening a headset is easy. just loosen the bolts on your stem then tighten the headset at the top and retighten the stem bolts. headset shouldnt be too tight though. you'll be able to feel when its right by lifting the front in the air and turning.

for almost any job on a bike you can go to parktools website and it tells you how to do it. special tools are usually fairly cheap aswell.

grooge

have you tried warranty on your fork if its still valid?? worth a try maybe? although they'll know you didnt do it just riding off a kerb lol some shops might not care though

G-nova
10-09-10, 03:26 PM
no warranty on the bike thats why i bought a years serviceing from halfords. will have a look at that park tools because i feel like i should know how to fix my bike especially as i know how to fix most things on a car lol lol.

so i will need atleast a 200mm steerer on the forks that i buy and it has to be 1 1/8" anything else i need to know?

P.S thanks for all the help people +REP for those who helped most THANKS LADS
