I'm just back from a dirty weekend away.
Edition38 in Northampton (yawn) to be precise. No reason for going other than a refreshing change to the usual list of stale shows. It was quite an eye opener for a few reasons, but I'll hastily add that I'm not about to go & bury my intentions in VAG.
Pics for anyone interested. :thumb:

Jetta on merc rims is surprisingly sweet! Also really hankering after a clean lupo too.

I freaking love some of the Lupo's since this weekend. Some guy was up onm the ramp & I was listening to the tannoy, the mods he had done were unreal, deleting the engine mounts for a smoother bay & shortening the rear beam etc for wheel/stance purposes. Pretty committed stuff.
The VW scene is worlds apart from the Vauxhall's. No one revved their engines all night in the campsite either., Just Drum n Bass n Dubstep flatout til about 8am!

There was all manner iof stuff in the campsite & I didnt detect any hatred towards stuff, though we did see a Cavalier getting it's bonnet slapped last night by a group. Not sure I'd take a group of novas tbh, though maybe for the Sunday only you'd get away with it. Campsite was lively to say the least.
I have to say, the 2nd hand/auto-jumble was a joke compared with the likes of Billing. It all just looked like stolen garbage. lol
Is it me or is eurolook now too popular and lost its 'edge'?
Probably, but I reckon it's watered down amongst what I would describe as a divide in styles. You either have stacks of cash & build a tasty motor, be it a mk2 or something new wave & bagged on 20's etc. Or they are 18 yr old gyppo's, wear their Y-fronts on view, with a condom-like woolly hat & drive a ratted Polo or do the whole fluro wheels thing on said battered 1.1 Polo.
That black one is real nice!! One of the guys who works in Wolverhampton Halfruads has got a red one, perfectly original condition, pristine paintwork on it! Lovely motors.

whats wrong with the arches
Well they were a last minate thing to make it legal and ran outta time to give them a lick of paint, shame but he rather it be legal than to look better
hmm really lets it down should of gave them a quick coat of black the wheels are a fair waste of money
i know, i did say it to him, although to be fair he only drove it there as its his only car, he had no intention of putting it on show or anything so he wernt that bothered

Ive seen sets of rare BBS go for £4k!

Prices are probably inflated in a lot of cases due to scene demand & such. I'm not saying they arent worth it, things are worth what people are willing to pay. Individuality doesnt come cheap!

some real nice cars there craig ive been to a couple of vw shows this year which have been brilliant. a mate of mine came to pv this year with me, and also went to ultimate dubs iirc at the pod and said the vw show was 10 x better.
my brothers got a near mint 1.1 mk1 golf in burgundy, and my oldest bros got a mk1 gti under a sheet in his back yard its been there for about 5 years now, he has no intention of getting rid of it but does need a fair amount of work, i will one day persuade him to sell it me.
would like to see pics of the polo with deleted engine mounts if you have any craig? i saw a really nice karman ghia at tatton park this year with what looked like a narrowed front wheel base. was gorgeous!

I didnt actually get pics of said Lupo, I overheard them talking to the owner with it on the show stage. From what I can gather it had a narrowed mk2 Golf subframe so it was mounted from the underside to eliminate the mounts on the chassis legs I assume.
The car wsnt 'that' striking, grey paint etc, but I dare say it was pretty mental in Lupo terms. I didnt see under the bonnet but watched it drive off the stage, down the ramp.

Few nice motors there but 'euro' looks all the same IMO, got bored of it in a week since its been the main feature in every commercial modifying mag all year, seems like it's all that anyones doing these days. It serves its purpose of being good to look at,no doubt, but i hardly ever see anything new. Hardly any euro'd cars differ from eachother. i'v never had a euro'd car fly past my xr2i, just have to dodge potholes and take trips to the hospital from the drivers back being broken cause of the sh*t ride . Nice pics though lol especially the Nova :)

Euro to me is smooth smooth body work and OEM high class wheels, porsche merc etc... like the passat (?) estate you like.
Although a truly European styled car stands out due to clinging on to a lot of the 90's with badboy bonnets/brows and smooth kits featuring amongst wide wheels

Back in the day, euro was as you say smoothed bodywork & small wide wheels. It's all evolved tbh & has become most influences all combined.
maybe the VAG scene is peaking. I do wonder where it will go next as I think many avenues have been covered, even re-treading back over 90's influences & stuff. Air-cooled seems is beginning to be appreciated by the water cooled bunch now.

Euro to me is the same, and a set of deep dish.
Stanced.. well all the same, just stanced, helpers out and camber, which i see a lot on euro cars so don't see a difference myself.
Thought OEM was having all original manufactured parts on.. like 306 gti wheels on a 106 or something. All peugeot parts for example.
OEM+ - a corrado for example on porsche monoblocks, original manufactured parts + porsche wheels.. or something
All kinda fit in the same category IMO. they differ, but hardly. all modified cars are oem+ technically. most euro cars i've seen are stanced
oem+ is a term to describe a car that looks very much like it rolled out of the factory as a highest spec model, I wouldn't call my last stripped out battered nova oem+ tbh lol

^ Liking the 4 spoke wheels on that Polo a lot.
I think it's all about making your car a bit different. That much is obvious, but I think with interweb & forums, it's harder to create something individual & not be like other stuff out there. Something the Vauxhall scene may not have a problem with, seeing how popular Cav GSi (slabs) & Allessio's etc are.
Everyone is searching out rare rims or using whacky paint schemes to stand out from just bolting on run of the mill bits.
Main thing that surprised me when reading VW mags is the amount of people that get bumpers etc sent from the US/EU because they're a slightly different shape!
its brown, its audi, its decked....i ****ing love it!!!

Rotas i think, according to the guy who shipped them in they were the first set in the country, they're v.nice.. il get a pic up of how that polo looks now..
Yeah i wouldnt call a nova on cav slabs OEM because it has all original manufactured parts, its weird. It only seems to be in the vag scene. Cant keep track of it. Like i said i cant see a great deal of difference except for wheel choice which seems to change it all (euro/oem+ etc) Hats off to em for trying something new and bringing it all together though, but not enough of em doing anything different. Like the sound of the lupo (i think) you said about, where the guys worked on engine bay just for stance, thats different.
Did the whacky paint comment come from the harlequin mk3 lol It's white now though, and looks a dog imo. I liked it harlequin, dont see them, same reason i love novas so much

The whacky paint comment kinda is aimed at all the guys painting wheel centres & mirror housings etc in Lumo pink. (look at me!)
Polo is quite nice, seems to have the stance nailed.
I guess the Americans have got upto speed now with the VW's & that has diluted the euro influence somewhat. Apparently German stuff is pretty tasteless & awfull now.

Yeah its one of the best stanced mk4s i've seen. Its slow as fooook and rides like sh*t, but its a looker, i like it, considering.
Didnt says its awful and tasteless, just nothing new, no new ideas coming from most. Just change a set of wheels or plates etc and give it a new name..
Thats why i think its all the same.
I'm just back from a dirty weekend away.
Edition38 in Northampton (yawn) to be precise.
Was the yawn for ed38, or northampton ?

So many posts to copy and paste too, so lovely cars up there, good work on getting pics..
Love the Rotiform rims, they are awesome and look so nice.
Dont think i could handle the orange but it does look cool as. Maybe one day...lol
The light blue Golf is very simple looking yet really nice. Love the wheels.. Find thing i fancy for mine.
The Tuv bay is amazing, but iirc its a non used and trailor car.. Which is a real shame. But with that little in the bay it looks cool as. I couldn't do that tho.
Love the 2nd engine bay, well the whole car really. Its sooo done and build, and everything flawless. Sexy as funk engine bay.
Love that the strut brace is the header tank too.. That is trick as funk!

the white golf with the beatle floorpan is awesome.
also lovin the mk1 with the pd lump in it, i saw that at at tamworth show earlyer this year.
and the strut brace/header tank idea is crazy.
the only thing is, to compete with some of these guys if you were to build your own vw project would cost an absolute fortune! i often think of vw as a way of life for alot of them. i hate the terms of oem+, stance, etc. the local halfords/mcdonalds cruiser lads have recently swapped there neon lights and ****y add ons, for 1" spacers and dished wheels. like somebody has posted else where its as the mainstream magazines have just jumped on the bandwagon the looks kind of lost its apeal for me.
would still love a 1.8t mk1 though.
