i race a nova in a junior championship and i was wondering what yous guys have found are the best brake pads to be using. I am using corsa b calipers and discs because the cars have to be very standard. I need the pads to have good bite from cold because we dont really have anywhere to warm the brakes at some of the places we race and the stages arent that long, can yous boys suggest whats best? thanks:thumb:

If I was you I'd just get a set of new GM pads... and make sure everything else is working right.

would the gm ones be any use under rallying conditions? i was using green stuff pads but they have started to crumble already, everything else brake wise is fine, i have braided hoses and racing fluid so all i can do now is try to get the best pads

Mintex 1144 are very good and quite good from cold.1155 are the next step up but they need warming more.

Another way to look at it is just to be careful for the first corner, then they have warmed up lol

I have used GM stanard pads for ages now, they don't need hardly any heat to get them working and i have yet to experience brake fade.

Visual inspection of GM pads is quite impressive when you look at the amount of metal in them :thumb:

are you running vented or solid front discs?

Yeah, I'm no expert but GM pads should suit 1200 junior nova rallying as you won't be braking from very high speeds and the brakes will have time to cool down enough between corners on such short stages. And as you say you won't have to wait for them to warm up and should be good wearing.

I had £8 brake pads with corsa b calipers and solid nova discs on my first nova with a 1600 and with enthusiastic driving I rarely got brake fade, they wore very nicely too lol

Mintex 1144 have very good intial bite from cold, and get even better when there some heat in them,

I used this with standard discs for road rallying, never got them to fade or loose the pedal feel, but with any pad, bedding them in properly initally is the key.

The road rally car im building now, i might go for the 1155 pads, see how i get on

1144's stop like an anchor from cold, but will fade with lots of heat.

The 1155's arent as aggressive when cold (but still better than OEM), but take much more heat (and last about 3 times longer than 1144's)

I personaly think M1155's would be fine. They do work from cold and some rally's i compete on especialy single venue's we are in the same boat just stamp on the brakes a few times while going around the service area to givethem a bit of heat.

I wouldn't touch any EBC products with a barge pole seen some bad horror stories in the past, a proper boy racer pads heavily advertised in max power and the likes. Used to have this argument years ago after they got in trouble as they couldn't keep up with demand of orders and basicaly a far easten company sprayed standard pads up different colours. :-s and sold them!

This would depend alot if you have mastered left foot braking, if you havn't, then 1144's will be fine, if you have, nothing less than 1166's or the ferrodo equvilent. I have been rallying for over 10 years now, tried just about everything in the nova and mintex always come out tops. though dont expect to get more than 80-100 stage miles out of a set of competition pads, allthough they may have plenty of meat left on them, the properties will have changed. As for ebc, stay well clear, scrapped a set of yellowstuff in 8 miles once.

I've read alot of critisism of EBC pads, but i've used Yellows in my rally car for five years without problems, they're good from cold and have never got them to fade and believe me they get plenty of abuse. They even last well too, the current set have done approaching 15 rallies, although there isn't much life left in them.
