on the throttle butterfly, there is a strange piece of ally... it looks like a bit of terrys chocolate orange.

1. what does it do?
2. is it worth removing?
3. how would you fill the screw holes in?

Its like an xe one, where folk remove cos they think it restricts. They fill the holes with rivets, whether or not its beneficial is another story.........

well, when you fully open the throttle, it takes up 10-15% of the available area,, i have a spare & am prepared to mess with it

Think Craig removed it after he had it turbo converted at Courtenay, noticed some difference iirc

Its to do with the how the air enters the inlet... leave it on

Wont make any difference to performance - would probably hinder tbh

i removed one by using a 2l v butterfly it was i think, more people use liquid metal or something. i saw now ill effects and with all the other tweeks appeared to have a very responsive engine

so why have i never seen one on anything else???

do you think it was designed to restrict it from a design for a bigger engine size??

i'll try it & report back.

as will said it was never meant as a restriction, was designed to control the airflow for some reason or another

Mowgli ive done this on my XE i replaced the butterfly with one from a later one that had no segment on it. I noticed a good midrange power gain i was told they put them on to make midrange driving better if that makes sence.

it won't help with any form of part throttle opening, as it is more of a restriction......

and the afm hole is so tiny that it appears to be a worse restriction...

i'm looking for a 18se afm/ecu at the moment as they were the 115hp 1800 8v & on almost identical injection to the e16se.. so i can check the afm size.
