View Full Version : weight
i just had my nova on the scale..
c20xe, F16 box.
stripped out, 2 buckets. full dash (still has the deadening behind the dash).
rear battery, 5kg fire extinguisher.
polycarb rear quarter windows and rear window. (still need to fit fronts)
no cutting of doors etc to save weight.
no floor/deading/headliner etc. it's all gone, just the metal.
780kg.
how the hell do you get them around 700?!?!?!
fibreglass boot and bonnet, lose metal from doors, 1/4's, etc
i know, but i mean.. 780kg. and its stripped out.
it's a mk2 shell btw, so not a light 1.0 mk1 shell :(
Take a poo before going on scale's should see you go down a few kg's lol
just taking a guess but some light weight wheels might bring it down some

Take the XE out and fit a 1.0 then lol
svlet: youre right about that, it's on banded steelies.
southie: my mk2, c14nz joy shell weight 760 according to the papers (not ready to drive weight, but still). a mk1 base 1.0 is 725
maybe a lightend clutch and flywheel if thats with in your budget or a lighter exhaust and manafold

Well as said fibreglass boot and bonnet and do you carry a spare wheel around ? If not cut the wheel well out and plate it.
What did Oli do to his to make it lighter, might be worth a look at his old thread. CLICKY (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61599)
I think mine is around 770kg and I do have polycarb windows, fibreglass panels and all unnecessary metal removed.
I wouldn't worry too much about what other people are claming if I were you. Just do your own thing.
EDIT: I could make mine alot lighter by removing the cage, but I think it's worth the extra weight ;)
Screw that i mean mine 900+ lol Spec ftw.
weighed mates mark 1 5 door saloon at 800kg
and my mark 2 hatch fitted with a 16 8v at 790kg
5 door saloon at 800kg
Bet if he took out the spare door it would save him 20kg lol
weighed mates mark 1 5 door saloon at 800kg

My friends stage car weighed 790 with full tank of fuel and him and his nav, it's a c20xe in it. I never saw any proof of this though.
And another friend had a very big spec 1400 16v stage car and that weighed hardly anything, can't remember exact figure.

true, it has banded steel wheels atm.
time for fibreglass panels it is lol

i still have not seen a fifth door . do novas need a roof or could you cut the roof out and replace it with a carbon fibre or fibre glass one ?
i'm keeping my metal roof.
just need to log the c20xe conversion, put the front polycarbs in, go mad with a grinder, poly boot and bonnet, and weigh it again lol
if you dont log the conversion you could spend the money on the car lol
If you live in Holland does it cost more than the price of a stamp like we have to pay then? lol
dutch new law.. logging conversion, 50 euro. i'm 24, so not in the expensive insurence.
i've driven unlogged for years, as it used to be almost impossible to get a conversion logged overhere (roadtest etc etc, all together about 1000 euro!!)
for what a carbon/grp roof would cost.... i can't see how its worth the swap.. personally, if i tipped my car over, a nice metal sheet is preferrable to shards of something composite hitting me......not that i plan to.....
are thier alot of unlogged cars thier since it used to be so expensive
i know of 3 nova's. (before the rule change) the rest (hundreds) are unlogged.
so yeah, thousands and thousands of unlogged conversions overhere.

A smallblock could hit mid 13's easy....
I'll be low 14's nxt time out, still on a basically standard x16xe... its jus that nobody has bothered with the baby XE compared to its big block brother, thats why nobody thinks they will do the times...
It is the better engine... :d
lol a 13 second baby XE nova needs dhdev spec's.
my mate did a 13,8 with a mk2 5 door (880kg) on R888.
i'm 780, and next month my mickey thompsons arrive :D

dhdev spec should have given low 13's, if it was setup for drag.
I've ran 12.9 with 220bhp and 840kg before....
Its just traction ya need. :thumb:
