being as the estate costs so much to insure i decided a new daily driver. being as its me it had to be a saloon and being as its supposed to be cheap it had to be a 1-1.2L. i thought i had found one but that fell through and then this came up. rysee sent me through some pics so i could see what it was exactly and i decided i wanted it.

set off at 9am today and got up there at 10.30 to be greeted with this

and im sure you all remember this **** up

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/red%20saloon/22082010066.jpg

anywho, fired it up, ran ok, had a quick look round and done the deed. set off for the nearest petrol station and on the way there noticed a missfire, MEH i thought. put some fuel in and tried to start it and nothing, oh well ill bump it its all good. bumped it and set off. as i drove the misfire got worse but i carried on. it was at this point i decided to explore why the clocks wernt working, simple blown fuse so swapped it and we have life, however the battery light is on, ok that explains a few things but ill carry on. misfire got so bad i could only do 60mph without it misfiring until i joined the m6 when i ended up pootling along the hard shoulder on 3 cylinders at 30mph. this was all very well i would just get to the next exit until i was suddenly greeted by a row of cones!!! feck, couldnt rejoin and it stalled. i had completed only 20 miles.

oh well ring home and get someone to set off with a battery. i was waiting for about 20 mins when suddenly a tow truck pulls up, result free recovery off the motorway :d

they took me back to there depot where they had a pukka waiting room.

an hour later and me new battery turned up, i decided to have a poke around and found the nut for the main power lead missing , still found one that fitted and bolted it on and lobbed the new battery on and she fired up but still battery light on. screwed alternator FTL :(. **** it ill try and get home, cue very boring 60mph journey all the way home but i did make it.

so the work commences. start by bolting on a new alternator and lob another battery on and thats fixed :D. so then i changed the rocker gasket being as there was a new one in the boot, then took the points out and cleaned them up followed by cleaning up the leads aswell. then i straightened out the front end abit and changed the boot lid.

no pics but have crammed in some mincing in the little time i have these days.

it didnt seem to like revving past about 4000rpm so gave the timing abit of advance earlier and seems better but will test for sure on the way to work tomorrow lol

also adjusted one wiper and did up the other one plus changed the blades, so now park and wipe correctly.

i then gave it a quick clean as it was proper bogging.

also found more jobs to add to the list, the fan is wired so its permanently on which is making the fuse facking hot and i believe this is also making the ignition switch hot, both of which are far from ideal so that needs sorting asap.

trying to decide whether to change the front panel and front wings in time for castle combe, if i do then that means ill also have to mop the rest of the car as well which is just more work to be done in time which i dont have :wtf:

Sorry to hear it didn't make it home, that's the second alternator I had. I took the 6 month old one back to the motor factors, they havent got back to me yet as it was being sent off to be checked before a refund(must ring them as it was a couple of months ago)

finally got round to doing abit more work on here today. got the bilstein front suspension on it and then rebuilt the brakes properly. then fitted the front strut brace and reset the front tracking with a tape measure :d. with that done i tried to bodge up the fudged back box with foil tape but this last a matter of seconds lol, so i robbed one of sams bike cans which pretty much went straight on, only thing is now it is literally silent  i dont like it
