has anyone ever made there own roll cage or tried? whats the best tubing to use and are there any places that would bend steel to specific measurments?
difficult one here, to put it shortly its really not worth doing, just buy one.
6m of CDS x 38mm x 2.6mm costs £100
So youll need atleast 12m- £200
You think you then need to get it bent £100 min I would expect, make the feet £10-20
Brackets if doing bolt in £100 if bought
If you cant weld £150, if you can £20 in materials
All that effort and it will be nowhere near 'right'
and youve spent over double what one costs in the first place.
I have however made a showcage from scratch for someone in a 306, but it was out of seamed tube.

I was going to say, just buy one. Paul sums it up spot on really!
i agree what paul says too, although CDS isnt quite as expensive as that - 6m is about 60 quid!
From where?
Even IMS cant match that?
Still all the hassle of making it etc, what type were you after? half / full / engine bay?

metals4u.co.uk 38mm 2.6 wall CDS (http://www.metals4u.co.uk/detail.asp?cat_id=162&prd_id=2929)

As already said it is alot easyer just to buy one. Although a mate of mine brought just the center hoop from hockleys for his proton and made the rest himself around it. Cost him around £200 all in he reckons and is a very tidy cage.
its pointless ****ing about when fitting a cage, if its done worng it can cause more harm than good, if you want a cage then save up for a proper one, dont try and cut corners when its safety your buying

True lol
If you want to try it, try it.
Design the cage, so when you hit a tree at 50, it wont budge at all.

In my opinion if you need to ask this question, i dare say you dont have the skills or knowledge required to safely construct a rollcage.
What are you wanting the cage for?
