I did my Cav on saturday, that is one big car to clay bar.

To be honest, the Autoglym stuff was 100 times better that i expected. It's as smooth as a babys ar$e.

Pretty much my opinion of Megs stuff. Maybe the Megs stuff isnt the cheapest at £20 but it does come with detailer, more fool anyone that wastes that on claying!

is the clay bar designed for old paint what does it exactly do?

It lifts air borne contaminants from the paint...

What that means is, when you really think you have washed & scrubbed your paint & dried it, its nowhere near as smooth as it could be if you'd clayed it. Once clayed you will get a far better finish from polishing & waxing. Its very satisfying to use, basically like rubbing your car over with Blu-tac. It makes your paint feel like stroking a sheepskin rug.

£9.99 gets you a LARGE bilthamber clay bar that only needs water as the lube.... you cant get much cheaper/better than that.

To help some of you maybe decide which to buy/or not, Auto Express tested a few clay bars out. CLICKYfrom2008 (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/230073/clay_bars_test.html)

I use car shampoo and water as lube for the clay

same as, a really dilute shampoo solution in an old trigger spray bottle. I use it when machine polishing aswell.

some shampoos can break the clay

for clay, look at megiuars detailer range, bilt hamber or dodo juice

best not to use water either, its not as 'slippery', a quick detailer or a clay lube will be better
