I have the cheaper, and the dearer engine stands.

Only differance is one is 3 legged, the other is 4.

i have a couple of each,
i find the 3 legged ones are fine to store engines on (or work on gearboxes), but for working on them i would definitely recommend the 4 wheeled ones.

4 wheeled one is more stable imo and can also hold more weight!;)

I've not had any problems working on my 20XE on a three legged one.

as above, have a 3 legged one and no problems

i did used to worry it would fall off, but you soon have faith in it lol

also the 3 legged ones are easier to get the engine on/off as you can tip them over onto tyres etc.
i removed the engine my self :)
