Following on from this thread CLICKY (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152753)

Went in to town other day for tyre prices in 175/50/14, which i have found out gives a seriously limited choice. :(

Only ones i can get are;

Pirrelli, which from experience i dont really like, at £ 101 each

Or, Sonar at £ 180 for 4 fitted

Mid range the chap reckons :tard:

So are these Sonar tyres going to be total crap ?

Not like its going on a LET, Sport will have 100bhp tops.

Bearing in mind that with the wheels being et33 they might not fit and i could need to sell them on and its not like i can get the tyres fitted then put them on the car and take them back if the wheels dont fit lol

Not sure what to do ?
Or can anyone recommend anywhere to find any other makes ?
Tried mytyres, blackcircles, etyres etc.

Edd.

even 100 bhp will test tyres, my 1.6 can't have had much more than that and in the wet it loved spinning out of junctions even though KU31's are very good in the wet... besides which, how much is your life worth to you?

if 185/55/14 is an option you'll get a far wider choice, including the KU31's which is always my recommendation :thumb:

michellin do 175/50x14's same sort of money as the pirelli's.. tho ive seen them less than £100 each!?
I have the sonar's myself - but just on 'mot'-spec. steelies theyre not very performancy are they? just bog standard granny-cut tyres. Sometimes sold badged as nankang so gives you an idea..
But saying that theyll perform new, as good as used cheap performance tyres..?

saying that you can get 185/50x14's - if you can fit that size, get them.. load more choice, cheaper, wider..

it should be fine tbh, I've seen manta wheels on a nova recently (TVL), they're 35ish iirc and 6.5j?

just found some 185/50/14's, which maybe better £ 69 each, but i could get them cheaper in town i would think

mine are only 6j, did you see the Nova with the Manta wheels up close ?
Rear arches folded ?

as i wont be modding the arches at all.

peester
23-08-10, 06:30 PM
Hmm. Are rear arches rolled?
I had et39, 6J wide with 185/65x14 on and slammed it - was very close but with a lower profile - should more room to be had..
How wide are the wheels?

peester
23-08-10, 06:31 PM
oh you answered lol..
modded arches find you at least half an inch..

MK999
23-08-10, 06:32 PM
Didn't look at it real close no, can understand it'd be tight without rolling the arches though! think I have about 5-7mm clearance on non rolled arches with et49 6.5j's (my speedline multispokes)

Brand new shell here, no chance of modding the arches lol

Just buy one tyre to see if they'll fit okay, if not then send it back.

good price Si, only trouble with getting tyres delivered you've then got to get somewhere to fit and balance them, most places want a fortune round here to fit if you've not bought from them :(

Phone around a bit (lot), for me prices fluctuated between £160 and £55 to swap/balance 2 sets of tyres... about £20 for fitting at the place I always go now.

Yes I suppose you'll be able to see if it sits right on the back i.e level.

Steels or alloys? Hammer on wheel weights are a lot cheaper than the stick on ones.

We (Edd n me) come from a town notorious for breeding fuktards, cheap tyre fitting is rarely possible & you usually get a stern lecture on why you shouldnt buy online/why they shouldnt help you.

I was going to suggest having a scout about on wheel-whores to see if any other tyre suppliers come up.

Edd

I will go on to the 'stupid camber bbs infested site' now mate

i have p6000's on my golf gt tdi150 and i they are a great tyre, low road noise, good in the wet and they last well,

that said i wouldnt put them on my leon as i drive that a lot more spirited!

Best bit of advise!:thumb:

Ive had P6000's in the past and they are crap! Far to hard and they dont like being pushed, especially on a car as light as a nova!:(

Goodyear NCT5 available at race and road for £75 (delivered not fitted i'm guessing)

Edd
01-09-10, 06:16 PM
I will phone them and ask about the availability because no one else can get them due to them not being made anymore

Pretty sure I'm going with the Pirelli's anyhow as can get them for £80 fitted

floydy13
02-09-10, 10:18 PM
is that £80 each fitted? i can see if i can get them cheaper if so....?

Edd

Yeah that's fitted mate

If you could find out that would be great then I could get them fitted when I collect the spoiler if that would be ok?

cba to read it all lol.

Marshall KH35' (basically Kumho KU31 rubber with a different tread pattern) 175/60/14 :) or 185/55/14

Great tyre, I've got a pair on the back of the VX as KU31's in 225/45/17 were a pain to get hold of a while back.

Ben
03-09-10, 06:00 PM
Also cba to read the whole thing but gees they were ripping you off at £101 per tyre as there £71 on mytyres,

Edd
03-09-10, 07:03 PM
I know ordering tyres from places like mytyres is cheaper but you have then to get them fitted, no chance round here if you've not bought them from them

Managed to get a price of £75/80 fitted now

Ben

I always just go into ats or kwikfit etc and say fancy earning £10 lol
