Hello!

This is my MK1 Merit 1.2 which i am planning on making a euro styled, b-road trasher as i live in an area of scotland where there is NO speed cameras and lots of b-roads and c-roads :d

I know, my dad lives in Sheffield and i hate driving there cause they're everywhere. The Police also allow a 10mph leway limit so you can do upto 80mph on the motorways in Dumfries and Galloway but obviusly the speed limits in town are stuck at 30 and stuff but the allow a few mph over.

does look a good shell, that colour spec (bar sunroof) and year is exactly the same as my current nova was, originally..

BenCNova
22-08-10, 12:40 PM
It might need resprayed as i will me sanding down the rust spots but i might just spray the individual spots when sanded.
The first thing i have to do is retro fit a lighter socket barrel as i have no where to plug the satnav into!

peester
22-08-10, 12:42 PM
lol! good old merit spec. eh.. no ciggie lighter.. theres a few black wires (live) and browns (earths) youll be able to use fella..

spraying the individual rust spots might look a lil patchy as its a metallic blue , i believe - be tricky to blend in.. Sprayers will advise to get complete panels/sections done..

BenCNova
22-08-10, 12:46 PM
My step dad is a good sprayer and my grandad is a sprayer to trade so i will be able to get it done well - i might get it resprayed.
I have had to but a lighter on my old 106, its a 5 minute job.

Coilovers, strut braces, better tires etc. Definatly need to get the body work sorted out though first. Luckly my Uncle works at a Vauxhall dealer in newton stewart so he is able to get all the little cosmetic parts for the car.

Go for the best suspention you can afford.

And in the club section, the "Gaz golds" at £410 are good:thumb:

Also, with strut braces, its alot of whoo ha tbh fella.

Maybe get a front one, but wouldnt bother with a rear:thumb:

BenCNova
22-08-10, 03:49 PM
Yeah i wasn't going to bother with a rear one, i think they do make a difference on some cars. £410, thats 2 weeks wages! Na i probablly will get Gaz's because my friend has an MG ZR and its on Gaz coilovers and there awesome!

Get some genolite, or some krust from local hardware/halfrauds.

Get it on all the rust, and then wire wheel it, atleast get some primer over it when its back to bare metal, so the rust doesnt reappear:)

BenCNova
22-08-10, 04:51 PM
aye, i am hopefully going to sand the rust spots and bubbles down next weekend and get them primered. It also needs a bit of metal work done on the offside rear wheel arch which will take my step dad a matter of minutes as he is a welder! Its handy having a family like mine!! :D

mk1nova_rich
22-08-10, 05:02 PM
Wish i had a welder and painter in the family, certainly needed with Nova ownership!! lol

BenCNova
22-08-10, 05:06 PM

dont leave the primer on too long tho or the rust will come back as primer is micropourous :thumb:

BenCNova
23-08-10, 07:20 PM
I'm imagining the ATS's on the nova and i reckon lowered about 40 - 45mm it'll look real good.
BTW moffat, i like your sig, i'm taking it and using it as my motto!

New gearknob fitted (the one on the left is the one which was attacked by hacksaw ect.), i dont recomend to do it unless you really want to do it! It took me an hour, a hacksaw, mole grips, screwdriver and graised knuckles. It really wasnt worth the hassle but oh well!

mk1nova_rich
30-08-10, 08:47 PM
haha i did ask you if you wanted to know how to get the old one off properly lol

BenCNova
30-08-10, 08:59 PM
dont even dare say take the gear-stick off and dip it in boiling water cause i only thought of that after! haha

mk1nova_rich
30-08-10, 09:01 PM
thats how you do them lol pretty sure thats whats in Haynes Manual!! Hold it in boiling water for a few mins then it slides off easy haha

BenCNova
30-08-10, 09:08 PM
I aint got a haynes manual! I looked afterwards and it looked even more difficult to get the pin out of the gear stick to get it off!

mk1nova_rich
30-08-10, 09:10 PM
Press gear lever down and turn it 90 degrees, then lift the gaiter and look down into the hole - you will see two 10mm nuts at the bottom. undo these with a socket and extension and the lever assembly will lift out :thumb: get yourself on ebay for a Haynes, i got mine for 99p plus £3 postage

BenCNova
30-08-10, 09:17 PM
thats way too simple for me! Oh well its done now!

mk1nova_rich

You did exactly what I did with the PNG sticker - I thought it was internal and now mine is also upside down....oh well.

Looks good so far, have you ever considered white steelies - perhaps for a Peugeot-esque 'Rallye' theme?

BenCNova
22-11-10, 06:35 PM
I think png pray on simpltons like us so we go and buy more stickers from their shop!
Hmm dont think white steels would do, i would have to clean them every other day to keep them presentable!

mk1nova_rich
22-11-10, 11:00 PM
How about some Astra GTE teardrop alloys?! I'm a big fan of them, although they aren't to everyones taste :)

BenCNova
23-11-10, 06:46 AM
Cant have alloys cause they put my insurance up too much.
