Got my cylinder head back together now. Looking smart :)

Just waiting to get the internals back (my fault though, lack of funds).

 Why thanks Ross, you shouldn't have ;)

Damn, its gonna be clean enough to eat your dinner off...actually, is that engine sat on your dining table? LOL

It's gonna be very smart Ross.

Our enginnering company acid bathed the head for me :)

That and a little wire brush on a drill to clean up the outside surface.

I'm in the process of rebuilding an engine for my nova. 1.3SR, and i'm looking into getting it that clean too. I think i'll send my cam housing and rocker cover to "shinee" on mig to get chromed. But i dunno how the hell i'll ever get the head that clean!!

I must ask my local engineering firm if they would acid bath it.

Roughly, how much would it cost for an engineering firm to strip the head, acid bath it, and rebuild it back up with new valve stem oil seals (everything else in the head seems to be mint, valves etc, so wont need em re-newed)

Its allways worth getting the valve seats re cut or at least lapped back in again.

My head cost me ?70 all in, but a mate did it for cash (No reciept type deal ;) ) so it depends.

He...

Re-cut both the inlet and exhaust valves with three angle seats,
Acid dipped the head,
Skimmed the mating surface,
Fitted new bronze valve guides and trimmed them down so they dont protrude into the port,

And I..

Ported and flowed the inlet and exhaust ports,
Fitted new valve stem seals
Refitted valves, collets etc
Cleaned out and refitted lifters

Ive also got new studs and nuts for both manifolds.

looks good techie, is there much more to do?

Basically just waiting to get the internals i.e crank, rods, pistons etc lightned and balanced then I can start rebuilding her.

Then just got to get stuff like new cambelt, water pump, tensioner etc.

cllleeeeeeaaaaannnnnn!

Is it just me or do others also think that engineered components like this look great almost as a work art? I've got a Cosworth F1 head which i thinks looks fantastic - I'd happily stick it on a wall but the missus thought I'd gone crackers when i mentioned this

Its gonna be about the cleanest engine of its age when its done! Looks great

I think your spot on there CP. My mates got a F1 wheel+tyre from a Sauber as a coffee table in his lounge...ace.

I really ought to put the engine all together soon but it does look cool all spread out neatly.

Hope it goes aswell as it looks or Im going to look pretty stoopid.
