a proper gm service L3 jetronic fault finder, for a tenner.
it plugs into the loom at the AFM/ecu & has a static test & an engine running test.
the test loom reaches the drivers seat.
of course i was playing with it last night.. it says my ecu is knackered at 3000rpm under full throttle... but fine at 3000rpm under part throttle...
unlike spud, i have understanding neighbours...
They understand you are mental so dont talk to you? lol
no, i help my neighbours, cutting hedges, taking bins out, putting them back, fixing things, clearing snow etc. its really helpful when i do something daft like wazzing the tits off my car on the drive...
I would prefer not to spend £10 and use a paper clip tbh...
Although that means you cant do it with the engine running... (doesnt matter on an XE and most early GM systems)
Do you have a problem you cant trace then?
ok, i'll test it at mcdonalds then

this actually test the functions of stuff then give a list of diagnoses based on the results..
the paper clip method just gives a static snapshot of a fault. this box has a, afm test gauge. and can do real time fault finding.. for a tenner i couldn't resist. its cheaper than a gunson glorified paper clip.
it has a big splutter at 3000+rpm under full throttle and the dash light comes on.. this box says ecu.......
thats ferkin ace, does it do motronic too?
i'd love to know what it cost new, cos it is well built
Bosch..... erm think of 4 figures!

thats what i was thinking
i remember my uncles vaux dealer binning all this stuff 10 years ago. at the time it was of no interest (i was a saturday lad) one of the older techs said it cost £25k for the full diag kit. which was one of them /\ and a bigger blue one for motronic and some other gear.

old skool !!!!!!!!!!! i used these years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!

and it still works.. i was remote testing the injectors & pump, and having proper boys toys fun.. and TBF a grease monkey wouldn't even come out of the canteen for a tenner to look at a nova, so i'm financially up
Fair play - I assumed it was a Gunson wannabe! lol
Cant fault it for £10 - although the prognosis of the ECU being at fault is questionable...?
it has been annoying me for some weeks.... if i feather the throttle & slowly get it up to 6k, it doesn't light up, but if i welly it, at 3 k, it comes on & stays on till 6k, but the engine seems to be in 'limp home' mode. when i lift off to change gear, the light goes out again, only to come back on at 3k again.
just before my head gasket blew, the light went off & stayed off and it had really good power....... which sort of proved the old saying that when an engine suddenly starts running right, its about to blow up.....
the flexi pipe might be leaking again, but the snazzy afm reader, digi graph thing says the airflow is fine...
Nice toy, can't go wring for a tenner imo!
i may be convinced to lend it to people.........if needs be.
if its going to help you why not buy it :thumb:
