What's the best sealer to use to seal the arch lips once they have been folded? (to stop water from getting between the inside of the arch lip and inner wing)

anything that can be painted.

Does it need to be painted?

anything that can be painted.

Why would you need to paint it?

Unless its on a ramp, and you have a mirror, you will never see it:confused:

Use that gravitex seam sealer, but make sure to do a propper job, or it will trap water, rather than keep it out lol

well, the painted metal will have loads of little cracks from being rolled, and it will need painting again to keep the tin worm out. a lot of silicone sealers react badly with paints.

I'll be packing the cavity well but just wanted to know what's best or if anything can be used.

I've got the stuff they use in bathrooms lol

The arches have been rolled and were then painted after (as the whole car was painted).

Just wanted to fill the litte gap to stop water filling it up.

check the label, if it is paintable then it is fine.

Dont fill the gap with sealer, it will trap water.

Cut the lip off.

Get it flat as you can, paint it if even with a etch primer, then use a sealant over the top. To form a seal over the fold. Leave one end open and spray a lil cavatey wax in the gap then seal the other end up. When the sealants dry paint over the top.

Then use a good under body sealant/under seal.

It has been folded up with a couple mm's gap. I'm not gonna cut it.

So best is to etch primer it, seal it, and then under sealer.

What sealant would you use Benn?

I use dinitrol 3125 mate or if i cant get that then waxoyl cavity wax only about 9-10 quid

I just used a seam sealant, something that dries rubbery. Cant remember who make it now.

Seam sealant sounds good, I was actualy thinking of something thats hard and rubbery.

I'll take a look at the waxoyl cavity wax aswell.

Cheers lads :thumb:

Cutting the lip off means there is no strength to keep the 2 panels skins together, I would seal it with seam sealer. UPOL stuff from Halfords.

Fill the gap where its folded up with cavity wax, easy to do it comes in an aerosol with a straw like attachment like you get on wd40, then seam sealer over the top.

Wouldn't the seam sealer not come off easily if it is sitting on wax?

Would have thought seam sealer first to bond to the metal and then wax it to seal the surface.

That's why i said leave a gap one end, and fill it like you would a sausage roll. Then seal the end.
