Whats the crack with ET38? Sticks out 7mm more then ET49? Or 7mm Further in?

Just mid refurbing some wheels, and after being told theyre et49, theyre actually et38:mad:

Do I have to machine them down, or put in spacers?

God I hope its spacerslol

i always thought that would mean they stuck out more :S

they stick out wider, et38 is dub territory.... iirc machining cant be done, as youd machine the nut seats out....

they stick out an extra 7mm and aslong as your not low they will be fine i know many people who ran et38 on a nova

So theres not chance et35 would fit on vauxhall

They'll fit, but on hatch arches they would either touch all the time or touch when the car is lower/weighted down.

Saloon hatches have more room, but only cause of the shape. If you run it low or with weight in it will run on them.

Mine have never rubbed the rear but do the front when at lock

I used to have ET38s on my old Nova an it handled better then any ET49 rims I ever had on it.

They will protrude 11mm further towards the arch than a wheel of the same width in ET49.

What width are they?

machining the offset down depends entirely on how much metal is behind the central area of the wheel where the bolts sit. Some wheels have the bolts near the outer surface (OK) some have the bolts sunk in a long way (not so good).

The effects of machining the back may be a brake caliper hitting the back edge of the spokes or not leaving enough material for strength purposes & the wheel spokes breaking away from the middle (hub) of the wheel & causing catastrophic wheel failure & most likely an accident. Tread carefully here.

/\/\/\ itll be fine lol

Ill look into the shape etc, and get the old strength charts out etc:thumb:

There 195/45/R16, so 7" wide:) 16" round lol

**** picture, but looked kinda cool. would have smashed my rear arches going over any bumps though :(

I would measure from the back face of the rim (mounting surface) to the rear of the bolt chamfer, compare a few wheels & then see what it would come out at with the metal removed/milled from the back.
