for road rallying you can stick and 4 cylinder engine you like. because they have or are banning standard production but the problem with that is sports can't run twin 40's down the lanes because standard production no longer lets them :s if that makes sense? so you could stick a redtop in etc.

bit stupid really. its the only reason i didn't by offplots sport. because i couldn't use it for road rallying

SR-Rally
14-08-10, 10:30 AM
nah its not getting to fast. back in the day people use to run full grp A spec chevettes and escorts down the lanes. befor the stupid restrictions (which i understand why they were needed) problem with road rallying is its on public roads. people move from the citys to country side and don't like what we do. i think in 2-3 years everyone wil have to be in 1400cc or less and in 5 years the sport may be gone :( although i'm hoping to be stage rallying by then

My 2p.

I think those who say I wouldn't pay anymore than £2000 for any Nova is blatently not an enthusiast - no put it into the general market, i'd rather drive a Corsa C, handle better, stop better, less rattles etc etc. And on perfomance rivallry - a BMW 328i Sport can be had for £2000 lol

Enthusiasts drive prices up - alongside rarity.

I do think £2500 is too much for a 1.2 shell (Keith IIRC paid £1000 for his - and anything around £1000-1500 is a fair price IMO). Adrian also paid less than £1000 for his low miler. But saying that if you can do some del boying to make some money - why not, i've been there.

As it goes for standard GSi's - an original minter (i can't think of many!) should command £3000-4000. Modified to the n'th degree £4000 upwards, and to be honest these should be fair prices.

Sloth
14-08-10, 11:12 AM
sorry but i disagree im an enthusisast, i eat breathe and sleep the little rotboxes but i cant justify 2k plus of one in std cond. just cos i dont have stupid cash for one makes me no less an enthusiast.

But not having the money which some people appear to do...

That doesn't mean that the prices aren't wrong.

Hell - I can only justify £3000 for an Jag E Type - that must be all they're worth - doesn't really make sense!lol

Sloth
14-08-10, 11:24 AM
ok then, go pay 2k for a std excellent cond fiat uno 1.0, ford fiesta mk3 1.1 or pug 205 1.0. thats why its mad. i was commenting on the not an enthusist comment you made.

14-08-10, 11:27 AM
I think im inclined to disagree with the 'if you wont pay over £2k for a std nova then youre not an enthusiast' i wouldnt pay £2.5k for a bog standard nova (GTE GSi maybe but never a pov spec that you couldve had for £150 a year or so back) i understand yes they are becomming thin on the ground and prices are going to start going up stupidly high but i would never pay that not even for the cleanest shell on the planet, because its only through the stupidity of some, that the many have to suffer because everyone and his dog now thinks theyre sat on £4k due to them having a rotten deathtrap with brambles growing through it in the back garden that used to be an SR!

Totally disagree.

How is it people fault that the cars are becoming rare?

The amount of novas members on this site have scrapped is criminal, amount they have crashed, and some, scrapped them, because they cba doing 1 plate for the mot etclol

Its supply, and demand, you cant go round accusing people of ruining the hobby.

If you dont want to pay the prices, go and play with corsas.

Mk1 escorts where like novas 30yrs ago, but now theyre very rare, as most were killed, so, does this mean everyone who has a mk1 escort has killed the escort scene? Or is it that you would rather have a mint car for £200, over £2000:confused:

High prices for base models may seem wierd to some, but its not all about the big inital cost. Not everyone wants to spend months looking for a cheap minter, waste time travelling to supposed good cars to find rust buckets etc. To some spending more to get a genuinly excellent car right now, is worth the extra cost.

If I had to replace my Nova, I would happily spend high to get the best shell I could to start with, as you end up spending more (time and money) in the long run on a car that needs fixing.

it dosnt matter if its a gsi/gte/sr its only the name on the log book at the end of the day

at the end of the day its just a hobby for me i like every thing mint and am fussy when it comes to novas/shells with rust in, maybes people wouldnt pay top wack for a 1.2 nova but at least i no when it will be finished i will have no worrys about rust coming back through i months to come

matt i kinda see your point but its only mexicos and rs's that command the proper money, the other models are either sensibly priced or hiked as the owners think its worth x3 timkes more than its value. look at mk1 cavaliers, outsold mk2 escorts 2 to 1 yet there is only 372 left. they command 2k max for a concourse winner. there was 4 in showable cond on eba last month for 900 or less. sadly its overinflated prices that spoil our hobby for most people. cossies are experiencing it atm. 90k for 3dr is ****ing nuts but its not enthusiasts that ask that, its investors.....:thumb:

If you dont want to pay the prices, go and play with corsas.

Get a grip. That sort of attitude isn't welcome here. This is a club for all budgets and the real enthusiasts amongst us will appreciate the hard work and effort that has gone into the cars much more than the money thrown at it.

You don't have to spend a lot to play the game. Dougie's brown 27k miler was one of the best shells I've seen, all for a grand total of £150. My blue one cost £170 and although it wasn' the tidiest of shells, it's solid in all the right places and has cost very little to get it to where it is now. It's been so much fun though and has fulfilled it's role as my hobby, I smile every morning that I see it sitting there covered in condensation as I leave for work. The yellow one cost me £130 and is a very solid shell. I have picked interior, and engine and lots of other bits and bobs along the way very cheaply. It's going to have more time spent over it than we could afford to spend whilst doing the blue one, but overall it'll also be a reasonably cheap build. You don't necessarily get what you pay for, I've seen much rougher Novas go for more.

This site/club has a mix of cars and a mix of budgets. There are concourse beauties, higher end and budget track cars, general dailies and rally slags amongst a wealth of randoms (Erm... Burgo lol). We're a diverse box of biscuits and try to cater for eveyone. How dare you try to alienate people just because they don't have the means/don't want to spend £2k+ on a Nova? I couldn't care less how much anyone spends on a car, in the same way as I'm not interested if someone wants to spend £5000 on a home entertainment set up. It isn't something I'd do myself but that's their business and their money so they should do with it whatever makes them happy.

I think you're mistaking peoples' opinions for jealousy.

You are an imbecile and I'm not just referring to that comment, your whole attitude stinks. You'd get on a lot better on here once you grow up.

It is a complete car pete.

Ready to go so to speak lol

the reason i said rolling shell is that all he wants. would be interesting to know if he would have paid the same price if it didnt have the interior or engine?

But he is building a concourse nova.

I dont see why you would start with a shiiter tbhlol

And his c20let is over 400bhp, so nerrr:d lol

no hes not, not in the true meaning of concourse anyway, decs is a concourse yes but hartleys wont be

im sure there is a way round that as the Sport was fitted with 40s from the factory.

no they wernt at all

Modified to the n'th degree £4000 upwards, and to be honest these should be fair prices.

i never said i wouldnt, i said i wouldnt pay that for a standard generic mk2. a very low miler gte then yes to right i would

im afraid your wrong, having a genuine shell/ID instantly makes it worth more no matter what you do to it

Im not sticking up for them as i genuinely have no idea what has gone on but in every thread i open started by them i see so much hatred lol Have i missed something huge happen or is it for paying members only? :wtf: I remember matt posting about the 1.5mk nova and has some very unfamiliar knowledge but seriously, what have they done to pee you all off?

To reply to the topic i would also like to add a lol @ the current prices of standard base models but there are people out there who would pay it so i don't blame people for trying their luck advertising it at that.

Would also like to add that although Lynz may of took matt's reply a bit too serious, she has got that last post spot on :thumb: It's not how much people spend what impresses me, it's how they go about doing it! Telling users to buy a corsa simply because they arnt prepared to spend alot of money on a nova is retarded.

How in any way was it an unwelcome comment?

If he can't afford novas, go to the new nova, AKA Corsas.

Loads of shells for £50 etc

Id love to be ripping imprezzas and skyline apart in my garage, but I make do with what I can afford, same with you and dougie.

Its a comment, purely meaning, corsas are cheaper.

Although a mint Corsa GSi goes for a right song now!! In white they fetch premium, same as a Corsa SRi in white.

I got me a 69k mile, 5 owner, 1999 Corsa Sport with elec everything, aircon, PAS, ABS, airbags, T&T blah blah blah blah for a monkey & then sold most of it for more then the car cost.

And as standard Corsa B's are a hoot to drive, more so then a Nova! Definetly more scary in such a fun way  in comparision, Corsa C's are ****.

Very valid point. Ive ripped far more complex & expensive cars to bits (without being big headed) for various other projects & cars Ive owned pre & during Nova ownership. Just everyone to an extenet choses what they want to share with others or wish to tell them. Ergo, if no one asks why tell them

that sums it up for me,

can anyone guess how much this nova will be worth?? if a bog standard 1.2 can get 2k this must be worth 7-8k by that reasoning, either that or someone paid way too much for a standard car.

It was unwelcome because you're being hostile towards other forum users/club members. As Mazz said, how do you know what people can and can't afford? Why would a Corsa be any more affordable when, as I pointed out, tidy Novas can be picked up very cheaply.

You have absolutely no idea what Dougie and I can afford, we could sell all of our cars tomorrow if we wanted and both drive about in something new. It doesn't interest either of us and as I said, I have a lot of fun in my cars. I have a choice of what to drive every day, a car for every occasion. I have no idea why you think you know what is in my bank account lol

The problem is your attitude. If you actually read my post, I said it wasn't just that comment but your attitude in general.

I don't wish to continue trying to explain myself to you when you're clearly too narrow minded and immature to understand, so don't expect a response.

People may think I've taken things too seriously, I'm not. I just trying to explain in simple terms to the lad but obviously not simple enough. I'm only trying to help the fool.

True Lynz. Most old Vauxhalls are/were a budget choice up until all the kids invaded ouir hobby & drove prices up with their retro fetish.

Some of us just potter about in cheap old Novas, others drive 20k dailies & choose to spend our pocket money on a project Nova. Each to their own, but driving a Nova & not a depreciating german prestige barge is my (our) perogative.
