With people running good bhp let in there nova's people are having problems with cross member cracking, chassis rails ect ect, now im planning on fitting a f23 in the front of the nova with my let. Im think of either modifying a astra mk4 sub frame or having one made similar to the mk4 to have fitted on the front. This also the gives the advantage of running wishboes rather than the **** tie bar set up. Could even get r/j unpgrades made. ect ect

The only real disadvange i can see is weight but if your doing away with tie bars. bottorm arms ect cant see it being that bad.

Whats other people thoughts ???

Im am not space framing before people ask !

When I looked at changing the sub frame bushes on my mk4 I did notice how beefed up the areas on the floorpan and crossmember were, where the subframe mounts too.

Would be a big job tho, F23 has a front mounted mount as well on a mk4 which would get in the way of the rad in a nova, suppose you could do away with it.

Interesting if you pulled it off tho.

if i were going to do it i would just fook the cross memeber out of the way :)

gives me more room for the turbo/rad/intercooler lol

i would run a box section from the fron cross to the lower arm mount, and make a a arm mount into it, thus meaning you can run a arms. and giving a mount pickup point. also you do know the vectra b f23 mounts like an f20?

I was thinking of this the other day when I was having a look at my Corsa C front end setup.

For some reason I've always thought cars with a subframe have a more 'rigid' front end compared to car with an engine hanging on mounts.

why not use the corsa c subframe browny?

does it  what engine is that off?

I'm guessing you will have to convert to cable as well?

that cant be true rob beacsue the f23 on the vectra is bolted of the subframe and not the chassis rail like the f20 ???

I would use and astra mk4 one because it would be free lol even if i used a corsa vxr one its still gonna want modding

i would say if youre going to the hassle of fitting a front subframe why not try and fit something with better geometry in the first place like mx5

im serious! ditch the nova stuff and graft the mx5 subframe in!

simonm

mx5 is rwd so the geometry will be different with a fwd and wont work the same

Mieran

make it double wishbone setup while you're at it :d

If your fitting a F23 how are you going about converting to cable shift then ?

djbrowney
11-08-10, 11:34 PM

Forget everything and buy a ford. Far more reliable.

If I were going to subframe the front of mine, Id get a Mk4 subframe, and copy it using CDS.

That way you get all the relevasnt stuff in the correct place, and you can ditch all the useless stuff, and make the mounts for the car in the correct place.

the mount on the vec has the 3 holes in the front of the box, and then it has a bracket, that goes to the subframe mount. i shall try to sort pics but pb is gay....

Sloth

true, if it was me id build a mk4 gsi cluster into the vec case. its what the vec b let lads do. also stu knows of a good cable supplier....

djbrowney
12-08-10, 04:33 PM
The vec lads only that so they dont have to change mounts/boxes that are a differnt type surley !

Sloth

djbrowney

may as well got with a zlet then lol

For the trouble though it may be worth making somthing up, the subframes arent light. Steering rack on them too which wont be needed

do what ive done had a full rollcage welded in and gone through the bulk head welded to the strut tops gone through the inner wings cut out the old cross member and run 2 tubes down there welded together and biult into the roll cage so its pulling from all around the car instead of just the 2 places and all so i had it welded in 25m lower so i dont need to extend the tie bar brackets

I was going to add, you could ditch the tie bars & run proper wishbones.
F**K it whilst your at it, drop in a B18 VTEC motor.

Last time I looked a VTEC was a high revving engine. Chavs are usually out of work Uk citizens, that wear gold jewellery & strive to one day drive a 318 BMW badged as something higher in the range.. slight difference.
