Hi guys. Was looking over the block on the c20let I've got and found this at the front
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f251/shrtwrec20/fadb734d.jpg

On my 1200 block it has a 12 and on my 1600 it has a 16. So obviously I expected a 20? On this one

Any ideas?

on a 1300 engine i sold a few weeks back, the 1.3 (ie not 13) was cast in huge letters halfway up the block. Where abouts on the block is that?

Does it say C20LET on the proper engine number area ?

That's what I'd be looking for tbh

Well this 18 is in the same area as the 1.2 1.6 etc but is clearly not the same style. Where is the engine number? I found the block number on the face near where the gb mounts but can't see the engine number

it could well be an 1800 converted to a let, c20let should be stamped on the flat face of the engine where the gearbox bolts to. Front of engine :)

Bugger. The only thing stamped there is numbers beginning with 9. No letters at all. There is a oil return from the turbo near the bottom of the block?
Also I borrowed an endoscope to look down the plug holes the see if any of the missing bits from the turbo had made there way into the bores but it seems ok. I noticed the pistons weren't dished as I thought they would be, they had notches for the valve heads?

You sure there is nothing other than the 9 digit code? Nothing like 18XX

No mate. There's the numbers by the gb. A different set under the exhaust ports which is 900_____ something, the 18 I pictured, a gm and another bit nearer the top of the block something like HM iirc. Problem is I've bought this off eBay and it's a mess. Was supposed to be fully rebuilt but it looks more like a bodge job. Trying to get a case together so I can return it and get my money back, so I need to proove it's not as described. You can see some more about it near the end of my WIP.
All help is appreciated guys

get a soft wire brush in a drill. they corrode over time and need gentle persuasion. also if you look at that pic, where the yellow bit is, just above there where the head meets the block, it could be there aswell.

FOUND IT!
Was very faint just before the long number starting with 9. Looks like it was done with an en-graver. I was expecting proper stamping lol

Thanks for the help guys.

Almost all let blocks i've seen are hand stamped. If the number start 0000 its a recon block (mine is)
