with those size wheels your allways going to have 'high' side walls

yes, they are very popular with Mini owners and i know Minisport stock them so may be worth a try

I find that Astra GTE teardrops without centre caps tend to suit the Mk1, then the 14" wheels will open up a wider range of tyres and will allow you to get some with a smaller sidewall. This is just my opinion

any decent brand in that size should be fine there not performance tyres so the manufacturers wont be trying to pust the envvelope with tread patterns

Forget those rims there never going to be any good ...there 4.5 j 5j corsa steels or some 5.5j 14 or 6j15s will allow alot better tyres and will work much better with that tyre ...as tyres have an optimum rim width.....

5Jx14 SR steels with 175/50x14 Sonar tyres
or better still get the 5.5J x 14 later graphote SR steels, paint them silver and go for 185/50 x 14 theyre much cheaper, though the profile on those will be a little higher..

those standard wheels you got will have a 145-13 on them. theres a bit of choice left in that size. you could go for uniroyals or goodyears. falken will do it if you want something cheaper. if you wanted to change the size you could go 155-70-13 or 165-70-13, where you will get more choice in makes
