View Full Version : something fun but economical?
ive got a 40 mile round trip every day for the next 9 months, i was going to get a bike but it means forking out for a license and the weathers starting to turn. so i need a car thats economical, but im not after a prius if you know what i mean, something fun, retro or different, haven't got anything specific in mind so whats do yous think? :)

ive got a 106 1.5d and goes really well and is like a go cart to drive, nether thought i'd praise a french car!
Vx220 2.2
I do 40miles a day (used to be 80) and it gets about 35-40mpg depending on the way its driven. One run I had 45mpg from it lol

Probably the worst car for doing 40-80 miles a day in!lollollollol
i agree.... it would be absolutely terrible to have to drive a low slung powerful sports car on roads that you know really well............NOT
actually, nope...
Its the most comfortable vauxhall I've ever driven (even compared to the omega!!!), its fun when needed, its mundane when needed, its economical to run, its cheap as chips to fix. What more do you want from a commuter car lol
powerful
141bhp is NOT powerful lol
VX220's = Small, cramped, noisey, horrible seats, boiling hot when it sunny, not very cheap to fix if it goes wrong, expensive to buy in the first place and worst of all looking very gay driving one!lollollollollol

Yeah because youre going to have the roads all to youreself in the 40 mile commute arent you:roll:lollollollollollol
where i live, i do.... well, after the 1st half mile, then it is country roads all the way

Then you need an over priced metal bath tub of a vx220 for work then!lollollollol

It hetros me up so its a bonus lol
Its no more expensive to fix than a vectra (since it uses vectra brakes/engine/gearbox)
Not that hot when sunny.... no hotter than a nova/corsa for example.
Its not cramped at all, I'm a cuddly fella and I fit in fine. Ambers car seat goes in the pax seat and we have a riot mincing about in it :)
not that small either. Boot will hold more than a stupid ass mini etc lol
you seem very angry towards the vx.... did one stand you up for a date? lol
Its far better value than an elise which is the same car just prettier (and gayer)

Ive been in 2 vx220's and both are cramped and tiny! You cant compare fixing a vx220 to a vectra, everything in the vx220 is harder to get to and even harder to work on!
The boot is surprisingly spacious for a 2 seater, i'll give you that! But it still lacking the space of 4 seats!;)
Plus not cheap to buy so i dont think he'll be wanting onelollollollol
My mate got a drievably acceptable catD for £2K earlier on in the year lol :) bargain.
needed some bodywork but thats pish easy on plastic.
Aside from one bolt on the timing chain cover, I've done all jobs on the vx in less time than a veccy would take. Its an ace commuter wagon if you dont expect it to be an S-Class or 7-Series :p
Stu, I want a sit in your plastic love tub to see what its like.

monkey bike or scooby both put smiles on my face when driving/riding them!!
lol @ scobby, 25mpg max... fisting on insurance... mmmm nice
Jack, anytime sweety, you could even sit on the passenger seat if you like
a bmx can do some tricks on the way lol
oh oh oh what about a mostly finished kitcar from ebay... a slightly older one.
That will be economical to run as they weigh feck all etc.
