i want to change the alternator over on my 1.2, what will fit that will give me more electrical power?

one off an early astra diesel.. or just order a high output one for a nova.

Ones off 8v Cavaliers will do the trick also

oh right, and they'll give me more power? i.e. better amp output, will my wireing be able to cope with it or will i have to up rate everything?

what are you trying to run????

a std alternator running at decent revs will put out 45a..... 45x12v = 540w or 0.7hp

well, i was planning on sticking a second little battery in the boot to run and amp and stuff off it rather then naker out the original battery, not only that when i stick my lights on it drains alot of power from the engine, and i can hear the revs drop by quite alot, so i wondered if i up grade the altinator then the loss in power won't be so much.

i'm i right to think that or have i got it completely wrong?

you fit a split charge system... and if you are planning a big night out, you give the second battery a charge.

I personally wouldnt bother.

If your running normal stereo (12v) and are killing stuff, then a astra diesel battery, and corsa b 1.0 alternator (if they fit) (100A aparently)

oh right, and will the alternator be a straight swap with noproblems or have i got to do some things to it first?

ring a decent motor factors & ask them about what output alternators they can supply........
