Well after the house move i decided to move away from the nova for a while and explore the delights of some of the other retro classics that vauxhall/opel had to offer.

First up the new daily - 3 door Mk1 Astra estate in china blue - 1.3l 4speed 59k on the clock and rather clean for an 1984 reg.

Needless to say im very pleased! Plans for the moment are tidy up the few niggles that there are to make it A1, a set of wheels and some slam then who knows what....

Red one obv looks plain & gyppo currently but will be such a transformation when modded.

John im not sure if they are the same wheels as i had i think they look similar but the ones on the astra look bigger 16's perhaps or have a deeper dish or both anyway its cool as.

I would love to let the astra yes but at a cost of 2K plus and the insurance its not going to happen quickly lol

the astra is great. but please get the front wings off asap & check the inner arches. if you look in behind the little trim panels under the dash, in front of the a post, you can have a really good look for rot.

I will probably replace both wings as they are just starting to go and have a number of small dents and scrapes on them and the passenger door as it has a crease were someone has scrapped the length of it close to the rubbing strip.

astra mk1's are great fun, just harder to find parts these days (topmounts NLS etc etc)

are you rebadging it to an opel? that looks way better.

no. what you can do, is using a full astra mk2 front setup with the mk1 topmount. so using the hubthing (dont know the word), spring and shock from a mk2, with a mk1 topmount.

that makes an 80 drop a 110 drop. you need to put the steering arm the wrong side up (iirc mk1 is through the bottom, and mk2 top).

KW has a coilover setup (front) for a mk2 astra, but that's expensive.
rear is a strange setup on a mk1 estate, but i know a guy with a slammed mk1 estate, i'll have a look in his wip to see what he's done.
i know of a guy making them (test parts for vmax), i dont know if there already producing them.

with an estate you'll need normal Hatchback springs, there much shorter, so a hb - 40 drop, gives you this:

Mayhem that looks so cool - i found some new spax -40 hatch springs on ebay for £20 so i snapped them up anyway so thats a result! slam slam here i come!

from what i've read, you need astra mk2 estate rear shocks (Shorter ones, like koni yellow).

i dont know MOT rules, but when the car is of the ground, the springs are loose. so for mot, normal springs ;)
