View Full Version : New wheels for my Sport
I had decided to use the brand new steels I got with the shell, but Rich/Novasport told me about these alloys, 6j 14" and et 33, which will need some mods mainly to the rear beam to fit.
Got out bid on them but got them via second chance offer.
Few pics;

They've been powdercoated black, diamond cut then lacquered, as I want my Sport to be different to the norm I think they will look good.
Not sure if to fit the centre caps or not ?
Opinions welcome.
Edd.
Those the audi 80 wheels that are on the rear engined nova ?
can we see a picture of what was on it before???
how you going top get them to fit with et33?

The look with and without the caps. Edging towards without.
Nice purchase
there only 6j et33 14 inch.. his nova is going to get a 30-30 drop...
with 175-50-14 im pretty sure there are no mods needed.

What tyres are you going for?
As for the centres, surely you can decide wether toleave the caps on or roff with a screwdriver or however they bolt on. Its not like keeping them on is a permanent thing. I'd decide when the car is finished (never likely):p & the wheels have tyres.

Looking good edd.
Whats the plan?
Chop 18mm out the beam?

Hack out the arch lips & not go too low!
No chance of milling the back of the wheels to get the ET closer?
Will look good on the sport mind!
These are the steels I have ATM 15" which is too big IMO, got a set of the centre caps that is on this one, might still get a set of 195/45's put on them.
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/Picture008.jpg
As for fitting them, rear beam MIGHT need the stub axel mounting plate cutting off and welding the other side if that makes sense.
Tyre wise I'm thinking 175/50/14 but not sure.

Might have to look into having it done, I'll get some tyres fitted put the Billies on and see where I'm at I think

Will be nice to see something different Edd - Not 100% to my taste, yet
But I haven't seen them on the car :) Prove me wrong
Do not like one bit, dont think they will suit a sport at all
Yeah I know what your saying mate, but for some reason people think there is a rule that you HAVE to put white wheels on a Sport, very very boring to see all the Sports with White wheels IMO, not saying the wheels themselves are crap, just very predictable.
I'm very pleased with them as I like to be different lol
Do not like one bit, dont think they will suit a sport at all
Should I spray them White and follow the flock ? lol
My Sport is already going to have no grill or tailgate badges, a Zender or 'plow front spoiler and no carbs so it's not like I'm attempting a Dec build.

No grill mate - Explain further :thumb:

No grill badge and no badges on the tailgate apart from the full Sport decal :thumb:

Ahh right I see :)
Edd, I think those wheels will look smart :thumb: prefer without caps.

No i just dont think they will suit the "motorsport look" of a sport with "scene" wheels on thats all.
Not all sport wheels are white. But theres no denying that they look well with white wheels,as do all early mk1's,no matter what colour they are.
At the end of the day,you build it for yourself and be creative,or build for a crowd like dec did.

I think he means grille badge.
Glad you like the wheels, they were a chance find but I knew they were right, very retro 80's. Could be a Zender rim.
Sports dont have to have white wheels, mine doesn't and I have had plenty of positive comments about it.
Problem is, you fit white RFX's and it looks like every other Sport. Side on, you dont know whos it is!

Silver Cesaro's on a Sport ? :)
Why are they 'scene' wheels ?
There small, uncommon and unique.
White wheels are done to death on Sports, I get bored looking at then with white wheels.
Silver Cesaro's on a Sport ? :)
Hell no lol totally gash them wheels

They look "scene" in the way they are polished and diamond cut etc, thats all imo.Like what you would see on a Vw and the like
I'm aware theyre rare and unique.
All wheels/things have been done to death on Nova's now, theyre at that age.
That's why I'm attempting to be different with my Sport. Like Rich says if you put alot of the Sports together side on you ain't going to tell who's is who's lol
IMO White wheels arnt motorsport they're
bordering on chav tbh
I'll get some tyres fitted on the weekend fit them and post some pics.

What about Irmscher Spider wheels ? The '50p' style ones ?

But then you could say that about Escort Turbo's and Sierra Cosworths, look at any recognised classics, they all look very, very similar.
White wheels bordering chav is a silly statement lol
Is there anything that isnt chav these days???
I await the "on car" pics for a final verdict:thumb:

Maybe, tbh it would take alot for me to buy anything else now, was set on the steels as I couldn't really find any alloys I liked until these came up.
I knew not every one would think they would suit the Sport, but if there's one thing I want when it's finished is that it doesn't look like every other Sport out there.
I can't wait to see them on:thumb:

Silver Cesaro's on a Sport ? :)
Jeez Vaughan no:roll: Not a fan TBH, 90's wheels on an 80's car plus they are like dog sh*t.
These are 80's rims on an 80's car and different to the norm. I dont think they are 'scene' either. They are not deep dished & ridculously wide, they dont have an insane offset, they are not split rims, they wont have stretched tyres and need pulled arches, etc etc
Why are they 'scene' wheels ?
There small, uncommon and unique.
White wheels are done to death on Sports, I get bored looking at then with white wheels.
You'll approve of my black ones then? lol

I think Cesaro's can look OK on a sport with the caps removed. Not unlike an MO really.
MK1_Ben
03-08-10, 09:49 PM
I personally think they'll look awesome, i've yet to see a sport with similar :)

My Sport is already going to have no grill or tailgate badges,
I bet when you see the back end with no badges, it wont be long before you put some on one at a time, before you know it they will all be on. Just my opinion but they look loads beter with the badges.:) As i said i like the rims cant wait to see them fitted :thumb:
I would maybe like some badges for the tailgate but there either NLS or all in Rich's loft lol

i must agree, the sport is a motorsport car, and as the wheels are very nice, i dont think they will suit a sport, they would suit an origional but very low mk1 tho! and look sweet as fook!

This is very true, and also the old vectra flat 5 spokes without the centre caps look like MO's/revolutions. ive not seen these before on any nova recently.
And what's a 'motorsport' wheel ?
As iv said I don't want to follow the flock with my Sport, wanted something different, and it's not going to be very low only a 30mm drop
maddogdaz666
04-08-10, 12:11 AM
i hear what ur saying about following the flock. i think they will still catch too with the wrong offset, even with the little drop. they do look quite similar to the irmscher spider alloys too.
i think they will still catch too with the wrong offset.
not with a modded beam

Well I think there going to suit your sport Edd down to the ground, difference is what it's all about and something which will stand out that little bit more.
At shows people will remember your car, wether they like it or not doesn't matter they'll remember it, and that's what a cars all about when showing it off.
Love the Audi 80 "Sport" alloys, good find and I want them lol Prefer center caps though.
Cheers Southie, glad you like them, can't wait to see them on the car.
Southie
04-08-10, 03:35 AM
They'll look cracking, I might do a PS on someones Sport but I won't show you Edd or it will spoil it for you lol
If I can't afford tyres this weekend I'm going to be pestering you for that Photoshop big time lol
Southie
04-08-10, 03:45 AM
To see it will cost more than a set of 888's though lol
All I can offer is rep lol
not with a modded beam
there is no need to mod the beam.
MattBrown

there is no need to mod the beam.
It will look cack with the wrong offset.
Make it right edd, not like some chav who got the wrong wheels from harfords:thumb:
i still dont get it..
30-30 drop and 14 inch with 175-50 tyres... that cant be a problem.
it he was going for an 80-80 drop, i'd understand, but this...
Most of the retro rims look crap, totally out of date when they were sold back then and look even worse now!lol

you dont like them then ? lol
In a word - no lol But hey, its youre car and if thats what floats youre boat then do it!!
I can only think of one set of irmscher rims that i would put on my car and tbh that would only be if i didnt have my new set of cesaro's to go on!

In all fairness they will look completely different wrapped in tyres & in the arches/on the car.

I dont like them wheels at all, sorry.
love the car, new wheels dont do it for me:(
Not a huge fan tbh, but it's about time someone did something different, the whole modifying scene has gone a bit stale of late tbh, VW's are all smoothed or oem+ on BBS RS, most vauxhalls look like every other one on the same stand, even novas that are fairly varied between the mk1/mk2/various special editions etc have begun to look all too familiar all the time.
As I have said, I want my Sport to be different to the norm, I think they will look fine on the car, they may be polished but there not deep dish stupid wide so shouldn't look out of place.
Said I wasnt a fan, didn't say you shouldn't do it :p

i would say original apart from the wheels, got k&ns on it but still have imscher air box in garage. had some work done on it a few years back but managed to get hold of a sticker set at a vauxhall show. starting to get a few scabs around and passenger front wing has decal missing as some one drove into it! bob

i was a member a few years ago but its been in the garage for the last 5 years. took it out fitted coil overs and new top mounts and it passed the mot well chuffed so now its back on the road so will have a play about. but also drive a scooby so that gets used more and wife has a import people carrier so hence it not getting used.

So are you making the sport twin engine then lol
Well it's only a rep according to Matt anyway so I might as well ruin it by dumping a engine in the boot lol
I will fit the turbo lump sometime before the shows next year after iv rebuilt it.
Off work for 3 weeks now so having a sort out of my parts stash, selling lots of unwanted stuff so if I raise enough funds I'll get some tyres, probably just get a pair for the rear first so I can see if the beam needs modifying.
