hi

a mate of mine used black diamond disks and pads on his road rally car, he allways finishes in the top 5 mostly 1st and 2nd overall

and that was on his scooby :)

you could also ask on the rally forum?

Try Alan Brown at Qustmed for Mintex he will give you advise on the best pads for forest rallying. I've used him in the past, all ways did right by me.

The general opinion is that when using proper motorsport pads such as the Mintex ones, discs get chewed up really quickly. Expensive discs with holes & grooves etc rarely offer much in the way of gains considering value anyway. The main gains come from the fluid & pads.
Granted some motorfactor sourced discs are 'warp-happy' but some reasonable quality £45 discs will not be far behind £100+ Brembos & the like.

As for Black Diamonds. You never hear of any decent race teams running them, only Max Power spec sheets. Just my opinion.

Another el cheapo discs/expensive pads agreer here :d

Even 1155's arent that aggressive compared to a carbon metallic compound

rally car did have wilwoods but i cant afford to buy compomotives right now.. (problems fitting 14's over wilwoods)

i have got myself 10 astra gte teardrop wheels, which will look ok on the rally car and will also fit behind 16valve brakes..

i am keeping the wilwoods which will probably go on my sport..:thumb:

when i can afford it i will put ap's or alcons on the rally car..

looks like it will be standard discs with 1155 pads then..

175/65/14 why?

i'm just wondering if as you are going to be on rough stuff anyway, that it could be overbraked on the front, as there won't be that much grip.. and 175/65r14 tyres might actually be too wide.. what do other people run???

Seeing as the works cars had Alcon 4 pots & rear discs. I cant imagine it'll be overbraked with 16v single piston calipers.

the works cars also had 165hp, and had to be homologated for groupA which included tarmac spec. dave metcalfe also liked a rear bias to his braking to get the back end round. he even tried a separate rear brake pedal at one point

power is not equal to braking requirements...

i know, but forest rallying on loose surfaces doesn't need the biggest brakes on the planet.... locked wheels on gravel means no control

i'm running my willwoods under 14" wheels. had to grind tiny bit of top and bottom edge of the caliper and it fits spot on.

these are the wheels i'm using. i think they are of mk3 astra's or cavs :s really cheap to pick up and fairly strong. :)

Not big enough = more heat and more wear so less braking during stages though! Still plenty of grip with the right tyres!

Locked wheels on tarmac also means no control and how many times do you see rally cars locked up skidding into ditches!

175/65/14 seem to be the most common size..

Thats the standard tyre size for 14's (forest tyres)

SR-rally, cheers for that..i may go try shaving a bit off my caliper instead of changing brakes.lol
