Hi im just seekin advice?
Whats the best suspension to buy for a nova
coilovers ?
or
ordinary kit
All depends on the spec of the car, engine, interior, your weight, wheels, tyres, what kind of driving you want to do, be it fast road, traffic lights grand prix, track days, drag strips, you cant just say "oh buy koni cos theyre the best" cos they might be good for road use but babba for track, its all a case of try what you think as noone will drive the same way as you so therefore cannot in all honesty tell you what the best stuff is to buy for you if you get me?

Gmaxx is the best:d
its seems to be more of a common practice now that if you are doing lots of trackdays then coilovers, if however your doing b road bashing then big piston billies are the ones to go for. ive had both coilovers and billies and much prefere the billies for normal roads

imo coilovers are overkill on the road, and cheap coilovers are useless all round, for road use i think decent springs and shocks are all thats needed, i like konis but have never run billies so cant coment on them, if its a track machine gaz coilovers are the way to go club gets a good discount on these and ricardo also has a near enough new set for sale for a very reasonable £350.

350 for all 4 coilovers? Wow! I paid 1200 for my teins on my mr2 turbo but that did include pillow ball top mounts! Pmsl!
I haven't tried the bigger piston billies, but have tried most other set ups.
But my Gaz coilovers have been the best on road and track.

I love my GAZ coilies also & used them on road. I found my AVO's very hard.
You can tailor a coilover setup with different rate springs more easily than typical shock & spring combo's as the coilover springs are typically universally sized & sold in spring poundages in close increments.
My advice for suspension is to buy the best brand you can afford & listen to advice from people that have used it, ie long standing posters on here.

the billies are weird. down at sort of 40-50mph they are quite bumpy and hard, yet get up to 70-70mph on the back roads and the car feels so planted, far more than with the coilovers that was skittish imo up at them speeds

I love billies, I know what you mean burgo about how they feel at different speeds and roads. The only difference between the big piston shocks on the back at least is they don't over heat as easily so don't fade. Only really a problem If your using them on rally car etc.
The only 2 reasons I bought coilovers is because:
1- In the past I've never bought a lowering spring and was happy with the ride height
2- Can get coilovers springs with any poundage rate much easier

Oh right, good to know.
I think this is the only set up (coilovers all round) i have found that have made it feel fully planed at all speeds.
I used to find the back would feel very light and skittish at high speeds. But it feels firm and holds so well.
note "mcpheason" struts are 'technically' coilovers ;)
note.. stuart is technically a pedant
