was talking to a fella that does stock cars and he talked about a mod for pierburg 2E3 carb that switches the vacuum pipes around to make the second choke open fully straight away, instead of gradually opening.
he couldn't remember what ones to swap around though, anyone on here know anything about this?

he took of the top pipe from the back of carb and put it onto the one at the front (if you can follow this lol) and it worked but couldn't remember what else to do

thanks

balls. the 2nd choke opens when the throttle is pinned, and when the air inside the carb is at the right speed. it prob can be done but not like that.

Try asking Floydy. He has this mod on his (his engine is built by a stock rodder). I heard it mechanically opens the 2nd choke.

i removed the choke flap and spindle and got rid of all the choke crap made a big difference just idles low when cold but good when warm

al thow my pierburg only wakes up after 3000 rpm when the second choke opens

so av just bought a webber 32-34 carb to fit instead and get it bak on the rollers to see if its any quicker :thumb:

we had a pierburg on a scirocco that we rigged the second choke with vac pipes (but i'm going back 20 years) at 1/2 throttle it was all economy, at full throttle, it flew, but really chucked fuel down the inlet... i wish i could remember how we rigged it up.

That's the trouble with Vacuum secondaries, total pain in the ****. Best thing to do (for a road car) is bin it and fit a Weber conversion (32/34DMTL seems to ring a bell). For the Stockcar, I'm not sure that they can bin them, they have to run original carbs, often with a restrictor plate. Certainly do in NASA grasstrack - the trick there was to fit a 38DGS off a 3L Capri/Granada which had synchronised chokes. Jetted correctly, even with the silly restrictor, the performance was miles better than a 32DGAV that would be more common.

fella came to look at my carb done the same as said before and then blocked of all the other vacuum pipes. dam! 2nd choke is sticking. not opening right and then not closing fully and making the car not idle right.
returned it to normal and checked the 2nd choke defo sticking :(
any way to free them up without a stripping session?
