im trying to put the track rod end back into my astra gte, but i get a third of the way up the thread then the the whole thing starts turning and the nut goes nowhere. any ideas?:thumb:

You need to put some pressure on the top of the ball joint to press it into the taper - get a mate and use a long bar and wedge one end in the hole where the steering rod comes through and then put the bar on the track rod end and get the mate to put some weight on it - then start turning the nut.

i used to tap the top with a block of wood and a hammer and then you can tighten again

or wrap a piece of ptfe tape round it so i bites when turning and you should be able to do it back up !!!
I used a G-Clamp, works perfect.

air gun, or failing that, i use a big pair of mole grips to push the taper in then it should do up

you would be better off fitting new ones while your in there.
nice one joff, straight on there! bitta pressure on the top with a crowbar and nut flu up the thread, dont know why i didnt think of that
