Can someone give me a rough idea of how much having a 1200 cylinder head crack tested and skimmed would cost.

Thanks:thumb:

A hell of a lot more than sourcing a good used one!!

round here the skim is about £25........ as for a crack test... what is the actual problem?? 1200's have been known to need head gaskets.... the early ones weren't even torqued down enough at the factory, until about 1986, the gm service book didn't have the last angled torque stage...

Well i have oil and water mixing..I have completely serviced the engine and new gaskets have been fitted. Also the header tank gets too hot and boils over.

did you put a new thermostat in?

the rad caps do go wrong after time, maybe get a new one.

are you sure its not oil/water residue from the previous gasket swap

Yeah new thermostat fitted, i drained the whole system so i dont think its residue from the previous gasket,
what do you mean by "the rad caps go wrong"

The rubber goes hard so the caps on the expansion tanks don't seal properly - mine did this.

Did you flush the whole coolant system or just drain it?

just to expand on that, a faulty cap means no pressure build up, leading to a lower boiling temperature for the water and then less heat capacity of the cooling circuit
