I work in education so not enough for the hours and effort I put in - especially now there's the pay freeze! But I'm happy to work in the sector, I enjoy my job and I never dread going in. For me that's worth quite a bit rather than working myself into an early grave for a job I am nonplussed about!

Sloth
28-07-10, 10:22 AM
i work for the govt, and earn 20900 p.a. for a job that should be 29000 p.a.
as for mechanics, i am lvl4 nvq qualified and i was on 13k p.a. when i emigrate the average mechanic is on £35k p.a. yet again britain fukks its workers.

They know how to take the piss don't they!

The govmt pay my wages, so they get rid of the minimum wage for apprentices, and I still get ****ing taxed on it! Robbing cooonts :wtf:

the wages of mechanics is simply supply & demand. the chargeout rates are ridiculous

mowgli
28-07-10, 11:08 AM
they blame the manufacturer for making them buy £100k's of special service tools & computer equipment.. then the rent on these space age premises... but it is usually grabbing a profit on the very limited chargeable stuff they do.. the majority of their work is warranty or scheduled servicing, but it is still too much

Sloth
28-07-10, 11:25 AM
the special tools dont cost that much, our tech 2 tester cost £2k, and tbh as oart of the franchise package, the tools are included. our dealer paid for the building, so there is no rent, and there was no mortgage as it was fully paid by the profits of the other 2 in the group. imho a mechanic is as highly skilled and as highlytrained as a plumber or joiner or electrician, so the wages should be the same.

Tell me about it, I'm on >£26k, yet I used to see similar jobs in industry for excess of £35k. Problem is I don't really want to move and I like working where I am.

Its funny, for years civil servants were underpaid compared to their industry partners, and now the playing field is a little more level (i.e. all the industry people have lost their jobs) they're moaning we're overpaid. lol

/\ correct, £120 p/h labour at toyota atm. nice earner for the business eh?

I earn just over half of what i use to as self employed...

And I'm a carpenter!

IF your lucky enough to be busy all year round self employed you can earn £30-40KPA

But the recession forced me into working on the books again, if i had not got the job I'm in now (been there a year, as i stated the day after billing last year) i would be possibly working at some **** warehouse job and topped my self by now!

I love where i work now, the lads there are all a really good laugh, we work very hard, always busy so the time passes quickly, and we earn good bonus's of around £200-400 every month EACH.

So I'm better off on the books now to when i was self employed and struggling to find work/competing against lots of other out of work/self employed carpenters.

I earn £17,250 and should go to £20,000 in april if I progress with the training matrix at work and I'm being a good boy at college. I always seem to be skint though even though I live at home and have a fair whack of disposable income. I must be too good at disposing of it

I earn a good enough wage (mainly coz I work shifts) but it doesnt matter becuase I live on my own and all my money goes on rent (which is about the same as a mortgage but I cant save up a deposit so i cant actually buy a house) and bills so im left with about £100 a month. And I hate my job but the job I want to do means taking a drop in wages by about £4k so its all crap

Dont think its obvious that im in a bad mood about it all. lol

Very uncertain though - one of our guys doesn't know if he'll have a job next week or not. Example, he had no word over Christmas break until 09:00 on Monday 4th when they said would he like to come back in lol

It does amuse me, some of the E1 (lackey) level staff contractors are on big money. The MOD has put a block on recruiting to save cash, so intead of paying c£15k pa for an E1, they pay about £50kpa to a recruitment agency to hire in a contractor!

Mind you, the agencies take most of that money.

At least in afghan you get decent sun and a pizza hut on site in Kaf. Oh and the american shop with its large knives lol
