View Full Version : 0-60 times,
Never timed any of my cars
Just wondered what everybodies 0-60 times are,
Here are mine
1984 1.0 does 11.3 secs consistently (couldn't belive it the first time!), even checked that the speedo was at 60 when it said! Changing gear at 5500rpm really works for it.
1984 1.2 5 speed does it in 10.7, not much faster than the 1.0 but for everyday driving it is more torquey
1989 Sr with twin carb does it in 9.0 secs, pretty good for a 21 year old car.
1992 1.2i is the slowest at 11.7 secs, still good around city but screaming for 5th gear on motorway.
How do yours do?
well thats the biggest load of bollocks ive seen on here for a good while....
75hp gets you a proper 0-60 of about 13seconds.
100 hp gets you 10 seconds..
i take it you have some sort of calibrated print out, cos if you believe nova speedometers, can i interest you in a straw house....?
mine takes half a day to get to 60 pmsl

How did you record these times? :wtf:
with a mate in the passenegr seat with a stopwatch, it was only for fun but with each car you do it until you get 3 consistent times at least. Done it in other cars too, eg new fiat panda = 14 secs and so on.....
My standard 20XE was recorded on the 1/4 mile at York Raceway at 5.995 seconds (need to put so many decimal places in as 6 doesn't sound quite as good).
With a stopwatch though probably about 4 seconds I reckon!
Nova and Celica are both around the 6 elephant mark

My 1600 rally car was timed at 5.52 seconds
My 1600 rally car was timed at 5.52 seconds
very impressive
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
get back in your box.
Manufacturer 0-60 times were/are done with minimal fuel, bog spec/biggest engine possible and they are thrashed within an inch of their lives to get the best time. and add in that your 'later spec' car (unless the engine has been rebuilt) will have lost power due to wear.
Never mind, you carry on living in dream world
It was only done for fun and is not scientifically accurate. However in 1983 when the 70 bhp single carb SR was released vauxhall timed it at 10.3 secs. These official timings are always conservative so it is not really a huge stretch that a later model with the twin carb (keeping revs above 4000rpm to ensure pressure to keep 2nd barrel open) being pushed hard can do it in 9.0 secs. T huge surprise was the 1.0 but with torque and the power above 3500 rpm, when being pushed at high revs this does move, although the torque is too low on the 1200 to do this.
Other things to help are proper ignition timing and a properly tuned carb, a rich one may feel torquey but is not good.
Wieght is the biggest problem, as soon as you have started to pimp it it slows down and for wheels, 165 steels are light, avoid wheelspin and still aerodynami with flush covers, although for proper driving more width onbviously does improve handling.
was your 75 bhp at 13 secs a golf/volvo?
the 75hp was a 1300 astra.
I dont want to know how long mine takes to get to 60

My big fat auto estate does it in about ten seconds. Do I get extra accuracy points as I have a stop watch built into the dash?
lol
30-50 & 50-70 are way better measures of a cars on the road performance.

Did that too, 4.9 seconds lol
Then I got to tescos and realised I couldn't get fuel

My 1.2 nova about 17 seconds inacurate :L

why??? forgot your wallet???
No 24hr tescos was failing at the 24hr bit :(
Pain in the bum as I have to make a massive detour to go there. The detour did involve a couple of midly moist round abouts though so all was not lost :)

5.36 was my fastest official time in the 1600. I'm positive that in it's later states of tune it was clocking sub 5 secs.

Use the big numbers on the outside of the dial. You appear to be using the little ones on the inside which are actually kilometers per hour, rather than miles per hour.
Easy mistake.

i think they'd struggle to make those times even if one front wheel was jacked up

With my old carb set up timed by Datron at Elvington for TV mag few years back i manages 3 crap starts with a recorded 5.64 0-60
I was dumping the clutch with far too many revs on & my tyres are like solid granite & rubbish.
With more practice & better tyres i could shave a bit of that.

My 1.2 did a 11.3 also. But that was on bumpy cobbled streets. I did however do a run with the back seats folded down and the passenger driver side was in the boot. Got my time down to 10.5 which is pretty good i thought. Oh, i also had my sunroof on tilt for more down force to keep the back stable.

I am entertained at how you edited your post to remove it, yet Mowgli quoted it in its entirety on reply #2. lol
Mine doesn't make it to 60 cause I don't want to drive it
