its official, renaults are now SO bad, that they actually punish their owners by trying to kill them.

had a 54 plate Laguna come into work on friday sporting this:
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/DSC01040.jpg

renault springs break just to pass the time, and as the bottom coil is tiny, and the next one huge, they shoot down the leg and attack the brake hose, drop link and tyre

this one did a really good job on the tyre :p lol

puncture repair required maybe? :tard:

apparantly it broke on the guy when he ran over a cats eye (lol) doin 35mph and sent him accross the road and up a grass bank. lucky nobody was comin the other way or it could have been worse

it makes me wonder how they ever get type approval? they all shoot down, i've had them rip brake flexis off before and all
this one bent the drop link too

Seen this myself on a Laguna........ not a pretty sight! especially when you think of what damage it could have done at m-way speeds! its one of those things Renault should REALLY look into............

Broken road spring. Could happen, and does, to any make of car.

That is one of epic proportions though!!

i agree it could and does happen to any car, but the design of the spring seats on late model french cars in particular, means the spring is totally uncontained in the event of a break. if a Nova spring broke, it would just sit there in the seat looking sorry for itself. a Laguna spring breaks? it makes a bid for freedom and potentially kills you + your family + other road users.

it baffles me how they are alllowed on our roads :tard:

That happens to Vectra C's and all based on that platform, Mondeos... christ the list is endless. They all go in the same way that that has. Cheap chinese metal, go ask an old skool mechanic how often he replaced a coil spring on an old cav or cortina.

meh french....the end :)

c1 or c2's are bad for this too.
and the springs have to be compresed so the small coil is 'under' the larger ones.:wtf: not nice to fit.

lol we were just discussing broken springs tonight. I said it is a favourite of Vauxhalls. They seem to sheer them for fun!

That Laguna design is truly horrific though! I'm very surprised no-one had side through it yet! :/

smart cars do exactly the same, the bottom coil is only an inch or so in diameter, but the second and the rest are 2 1/2 inches. seems to be a common thing as we are doing a lot of springs at work at the minute. the most common ones we get are mondeos, mk4 golfs and e49 BMW 3 series rear ones (replacing at least three of those a week!)

i did one side of a vectra mk2 the other week, and as the customer drove it off the front the other side snapped, i've done 3 smart cars up to now (requiring the full front end off)and a few of the beemers.

Rear spring snapped on my Nova once, during the MOT test. Almost took the tester's head off.

But it was Craig so we didn't mind too much lol

this in my opinion is what happens when you try and cram everything possible(air con, power steering etc etc) in to the tiniest engine bay possible all over the front 2 wheels and expect them to steer drive brake and negotiate mountainous speed bumps and pot holes. Really really bad design and a nightmare to replace due to the stupid cambered shocks. :wall:

Renaults don't seem that bad. Since yesterday I've replaced two front springs on two different polo's (and both only a fewyears old) and a front spring on an Audi TT. If I'm honest it's the vag stable that's worst for weak springs

yea my mates polo went but id say reno are still worse lol

Renault are far far far from the worst manufacturers out there.
The build quality nowadays is akin to any German manufacturer.
Granted their build quality has dropped, but its still on a par.

My R26 has given me no drama at all!

And to add, my best mates M3 has just snapped a rear spring, so its not just cheap tat that does it either!

Whilst on the subject, bloke I know bought a brand spanking new L200 Animal double cab pick up & after only 3 days the ECU burnt out, got that fixed then 3 months later happened again. So yeah, not just low end marques at fault.

lol lol what was the cause of it? water ingress?

the Discoverys with a TD5 are notorious for munching ECUs because the injectors are under the rocker cover, so the oil runs down inside the loom and into the ECU. nice one, Landrover :tard:

That first pic looks like a cheap eBay coilover lol

Seriously though, that's shocking, is he sure it was a cat's eye and not a lion? Really do sometimes think that manufacturers are just using cheap crappy parts at times. I mean the problems that I've seen and/or heard from people with new cars has never happened with our old skool fleet at home.

Granted all cars break down but old cars very rarely break down in this dramatic fashion.

Luckily for everyone it happened at low speeds with no one around.
