Intank pumps

Hi ive heard that you have to shorten the mpi intank pumps when fitting them to a nova tank. What is it that i actually have to shorten as when i fitted mine i had to quash it into the tank which has cause slight fuel starvation until the pressure build up.

Any help as always appreciated.
