tip..

go on a trip to africa, and travel old 80's rally routes. after a crash or big failure, the mostly left the cars.

in germany there is a guy who found an official dealer I400 manta/ascona, abandoned after a crash.

I couldn't be bothered trying to find the png thread but this one will do lol, oh I do beleive it was the chap who has all the mega rare ford rs models ( ie the moonstone blue RS500, HRH princess Diana's black RS TURBO ) that bought these cars.

Cosworths were in Sweden iirc as there has just been a thread posted about it due to a forum member visiting the place.

The E30 M3/rs200/merc evo are part of what is know as the Bonkers collection containing many other low mileage cars inc some of the above.

i bet it is covered by his company insurance..... tbh apart from how shiny some of them are.. a low mileage cossie sapphire will never be worth gigantic money, the rs200 & di's car will but the rest aren't worth that much

Bit of an understatement IMO...

Even the cheapest car in his collection would fetch 15-20k. Say for example the red Saph.

Okay not 'Gigantic' but still a great deal compared to its/their contemporaries.

Ford did make some rare oddidties tho, like the RS1700t, and the 4x4 mk4 RST both projects were killed of and the cars supposedly crushed but 1 or 2 escaped, as for the value of each car it's almost imposable to say but that poor chap in Ireland that had his mint red ECOS stolen had his var valued at £35,000 and it was a standard car!

The last moonstone blue RS500 I saw for sale went for over 50k!! And it had much higher miles and had been tampered with so not a standard car, in some eyes that actually devalues it lol

At least 20 1700T's were built, a handful survived. Funnily enough a member of my local RS club has just aquired one from Germany and is subject to a rebuild. He also owns a mint RS200.

The 4x4 S2 were only 'mules' and the 3No. built never passed into the hands of the public.

As stated RS500's are commanding big money for the right car. I may be selling my MK2 FRS due to being offered a low mileage moonstone example, it could potentially be worth double what I hope to secure it for.

Good clean, original low mileage examples of any RS will always command good money. There are always enthusiasts out there who will pay it too.

The Bonkers collection is easily work over 1/2 a mill...

i always thought the mk4 escort 4x4 was a prototype to get approval on the escort cossie. one did get out i saw it in a CCC mag back in the day.

i never understood the rs1700t... everyone knew 4wd was the future, so ford made a 300+hp successor to the rs1800 in 2wd......

a few years back, a gang in london was caught stripping trucks for export.. the police followed a tractor unit to the premises, then got the armed boys to raid it. 2 hrs later. the truck was already stripped, de-cabbed & in a container. in 2 hrs!!!!!

he also has other classics, and hes an elderly gent. for example our wedding car was a dodge custom royale lancer 4dr, the only one in the uk, and it had had a 15k resto last year. it had 32k on it, not bad for a 1957 car

About 12 months ago I was out doing some shopping round here, come back to the car & this old as you like bloke pulls up in the mintest all original Sierra Cosworth, obviously i was like "mmmmmmmmmm lush" so puts the window down an tells him his Sierra's properly mint.

This old blokes replies along the lines of I must be mad as its just an old ****ty Sierra that hes owned from new

the escort mk2 had somehow managed to win the world title against the quattro, but the safari rally etc were proper events & it was before the days of 15 minute gearbox changes, i never understood why ford got it so wrong with the rs1700t, then finally they built arguably the best group B car, just in time for it to get banned....

the gt70 was a greater tragedy, as they chose not to run it!!!!! in the era of the stratos & the 037, ford could have spanked them with a mid engined bda powered car
