Another pic request thread

I need to see as many as possible.

Preferably without the bumper and maybe state the dimensions too?

Thanks :thumb:

Was there any addition strengthen done were Joff with removing so much? I've done something similar and about to plate it back up, just wondered if I should put some box section in there before its plated back up

Ive still yet to see one behind a early mk1 one piece bumper (sport type)
I would be interested to see one hidden and then on show if there is any as im looking for ideas as to where to locate mine

There's some pictures of my hidden intercooler and radiator on my build thread, all designed to fit behind behind standard bumper, pretty sure it would go behind a early bumper too.

I think I used something like 30mm heavy box section from one chassis leg to the other and then welded to the cross member and front plate.

I would dude, get some 2" angle, and put it in as a L shape, to sit the cooler in:thumb:

Just to add. I appreciate people want to build sleepers or not destroy bumpers by hacking holes in them, but if you dont give an intercooler sufficient airflow, you may aswell not run one or run the risk of melting your pistons. Do the reaerch but there is maths behind intercooler size & the required airflow to it.

c20tbo used a charge cooler for that reason the courtenay ones only have a small rad and will easily fit in the front end

Exactly, no point having an intercooler the size of youre front end if 90% of it is covered by your bumper.:thumb:

Problem is that in a tight compact engine bay like a nova with a c20let in they warm up very quickly even though they are water cooled to a point!

I remember you saying that about mine. But mine sits right in the middle of the "mouth" of the bumper cut out. Getting plenty of air.

Yeah i used to have a eds one in my green one and it didn't look like that but i know a couple of lads who ordered a full eds front mount kit and got a fontera cooler so sent them back again, this was a couple of years ago though.

isn't that just the later fontera cooler though? it has more rounded off end tanks?

any pics of this with the the bumper off? and did u have to cut the front so it fits? this looks like the same intercooler i got for mine, would be good to see how u made it fit coz i been tryin to figure it out. lol

mrT
20-07-10, 09:30 PM
be aswell bud, easier to fit in probably better as u know the i cooler is only good when flat out which doest happen often..or does it haha

david dixon
20-07-10, 09:45 PM
i think i would stick to a intercooler because when i change my turbo it'll be a 35r and to have enough room it'll be over the box which means no chargecooler.

David.

Car was initially built with charge cooler but suffered heat soak on a roasting track day, i got pro alloy to make a bespoke intercooler and rad setup to sit behind the bumper and ran that and chargecooler.:thumb:

I'd love to know where it is now. I've heard up north somewhere. Last I heard it had colour coded bumpers and porsche wheels and the guy was snapping driveshafts and the front cross-member had cracked (despite being thick box section and 4/5mm plate!).
