I've been offered some for £100 and they're cheap for a reason as the guy said he set them to very hard and "blew the struts" I'm guessing he popped the seals  how much is it to get struts re-gassed and new seals if this is the case? Worth a shot or not?

Koni's killed my SR :(

they were that hard the strutt top was ripped out, BUT the wee motor handled like fook,

IMO I wouldn't bother, Koni's are way too hard for road use.

mine were mega stiff for road use but it did handle

They aren't too stiff for the road - as long as you don't set them to the stiffest setting! which I guess most people can't resist doing

I had these for the XE !! i only run them low 2.5 turns max !!!! that was bad enough but it didi handle very well !!!!!!!!
£100 for some funked shocks this bloke must be an absolute retard ! what planet is he from !
what a chunt offer him £40 and i still think thats to much

No problems with mine, set mid-high. Can't remember how many clicks, but I'm sure we turned them to max then back off by a third.

I do have big tyres that help protect the suspension though.

[edit] I paid £200 for good quality set with springs. £100 for knackered dampers only is more than I'd want to pay tbh.

So I would be right in thinking he popped the seals? Limited money dictates what I buy at the minute and I assume its not worth it if I have to get them re-gassed and rebuilt?

I wouldnt bother.

For what reason, Alex?

Ring Koni and ask how much it'd be for new seals/rebuild. I've had a pair done for free by Avo before (must have looked newish/under warranty or something). IIRC it was near £30 a shock though.

I've just sent them an email asking, didn't see a phone number for them on their contact us section.

How much are they brand new then? Seem like a cheap bit of kit.

Mowgli, cheers mate.

Around £120 for each front strut, £70 for each rear, and thats without springs!

springs and shocks 400 maybe. but they are hard just remembered my mate had an sr with koni's and it started to pull seams apart. but roads up here are shocking.

So not that cheap, so the consensus is £100 for a set with blown fronts (including springs) isn't worth it?

correct....

i love it that everyone with a rotten shell blames the konis

No point buying broken kit when you can get good ones for that money, do Koni even do repairs?

Koni's couldn't break my rusty nova, they aren't that harsh if you keep the setting about midway. And rusty nova strut areas with their little spot welds will be broken by even standard suspension eventually if left untreated.

Hokay.

This thread is now about shells that have been killed by Koni's, pics needed lol

Fair enough, my sr was 9 years old but by no means rotten, it died in 1996 after the koni's were fitted in late 95, it took about 10 months tbh

Makes a change from blaming XE power though.......

I have Konis on my new MR2 and it seemed to ride fine on the journey home yesterday. They are set to soft though.

tbf i never adjusted the corsa ones left them as they left the factory as to adjust the rears you have to strip the shock down so i figured if i wound the fronts up the fron rear balance would be out it road lovely and handling was very good id recomend them just dont wind the fronts up too hard

lol At what point did you have KONI's then? :p

I had KONI's, thought they were pretty ace tbh. Some of the best stuff I've found. Sure they were pretty solid on hardest setting, but they were pretty soft on the softest setting too. Theres a happy medium in there somewhere

Been running Koni adjustables for the best part of ten years. Top shocks. You wouldn't run them anywhere near max, way way way too hard. Mine are set at a max full turn if that, handling is top notch with the custom springs.

Oh and no dead shell lol
