Are 100% plain, ie NOTHING but the reg number on there, legal?

As the place I used to get that type of plate from no longer do them and you have to have the poxy website url on there and the RNPS number.

I assume I need to find a 'show plate' supplier to get a completely plain plate? Will we be "busted" for it, note it will be 100% legal in every other aspect)

I 'think' I read somethinga bout cars pre 2001 could go without any details on the plate, but I may have been wrong :( its a 2004 btw.

Anything earlier than 2001 can have totally plain (No postcode or bsau)

After then, the bottom right hand corner must say bsau yaadadada, and postcode of manufacturer, or the dealerships name can be displayed aswell

all plates now need the BS number. any place can do it on the show plate program if its for "off road use."

I thought that all new plate being made had to have the stamp and plate they were made on them...regardless of the year..

Very muchly doubt the MOT'er would notice either..

I too prefer just the reg on the plate and have had two mot's with these plates on at different stations and nothing was said about them.

meh, if its a legal fonted/spaced/looking plate the odds of it REALLY being checked are minimal lol

plus I CBA with the palava of needing a V5/dna test/urine sample for the past 20 years you need to get "legit" plates made

as usual, you are fine for 99.99999% of the time, but every so often some poor lad upsets a rozzer who's wife is on rag week & gets the rubber hose treatment

No, as stated this applies for post 2001 cars.

You can get plates for Pre-2001 cars without any BS mark.

it says plates made after 2001.

same as its illegal to fit black/silver ones to post '73 cars...... but its amazing how many get thru the mot

All new plates (i.e. ones manufactured these days) need to comply with the current regulations.

Proving the plates on your pre-2001 car were manufactured post-2001 is an interesting point though...

16-07-10, 01:58 PM
hmmm that is a good point actually, there would be no way of the coppers knowing i bought them now and not a previous owner before 2001

mowgli - if im confused, theres no harm in asking is there?! or was it aimed at the fact i now own an egg?! lol
