At Last.........

My enigne 16 16v has been smoking every now and then for about 2 months now.....at last it has shown some signs of something going wrong the engine has started to tap at the top end...sounds like it comes from the inlet manifold....and now it smoke all the time not a lot of smoke but as soon as it gets warm it starts to smoke.. any ideas?

i spoke to a mechanic i know and he said it is more than likely the rocker cover needs replacing...i dont know why this is....but he told me this before it started tapping.

U MIGHT BE USING THIN OR SHIT OIL SO TRY 10W-40W (QUALITY STUFF)BUT THAN AGAIN IF THE ENGINE COVERED HIGH MILES IT COULD BE THE HEAD OR PISTON RINGS REALLY WORN. THE EARLY 1.6 16v ((16ex) I THINK) HAD IRON VALVE GUIDES WHICH FULL OF SHIT AND BY ABOUT 60-80K THEY NEED REPLACING.

I think that you should take the head off and have a look.

could be a valvetrain problem or piston ring broken up
