anyone done it? how hard is it?

I assume on a xe?

Its straight forward but you need a LOT of parts to do it.

straight forward

may as well LET it

cant afford to let it but xe yer, might buy another engine and swap the nessesary bits over

If your going to convert to coilpack, I still have a few bits for sale to convert

tbh mate i'd like to buy everything i need in one go and swap it over in a day if i can, thinking about carbs aswell, what ever comes up first

If you did decide to carb I have an mbe loom and ecu to sort ignition.

thanks people

Would anyone be able to explain what parts I would need to convert my SRI to coilpack? Cheers.

you would need 2 separate triggers from the ECU for each group of coils in the coil pack to run wasted spark (1+4) + (2+3), which you probably dont have if it was distributer.

also a crank trigger will be needed if the pick up sensor was in the distributor.

you could rig a crank sensor up with 2 trigger points (as crank is double cam speed) which would make the ECU think the trigger is still cam based but it would need a sync to know what set of coils to fire ie a TDC mark. this is why the OE crank trigger wheel is 60-2.

so you're onto plums.

what is wrong with distributor?

It has a crank sensor on it, no wires come out of the dizzy.. Im putting a 1.6 (C16se) in it and it is coil pack but the rest of the loom is the same with the same sensors etc. So I was wondering if I could just add a few extra wires into the loom for the coil pack and then plug the 1.6 ecu in.

would it not just be easier to take the coilpack off the C16SE and fit the distributor?

Would be easier but not sure how to wire it up to the ecu.

eh?

If I used the original dizzy, I would somehow need to wire it up to the 1.6 ecu. As the 1.6 ecu ran coil pack originally.

the head and block are essentially the same, why cant you swap over all the parts which made the original engine run, onto the new engine?

I thought the dizzy engines were considered slightly better because of the adjustability ... why change over if it works ?
