If you think it's that then try another, if it runs then you know what needs fixing, if not move to the next thing.....

What engine/year is it?

its a 1.2 carb H-reg nova
i dont understand what you mean? as far as im aware its this box ( dont know the name of it ) as there is no spark from the lead off it. but i have no idea why.

its called a coil, have you got a multi meter? if so test the small wires that go to the coil, if you et 12v then its the coil. or just swap it for one off any vaux that has one that looks the same.

has the connection come off at the distributer? its a pink and black wire inside the dizzy that plugs into it.

Check all connections, unlikely the coil would go suddenly, they tend to break down over time

i have checked all the wires there are a red wire black wire and a brown wire they are all attached to the coil and inside the dizzycap the black and red wire are both connected my neighbor has a multi meter how do i check just on the wire that connect to the coil? what should i get if the coil is broke and what should i get if it works?

put the multimeter between the wire and connection on the coil and get someone to turn the engine over. how many wires have you got coming from the coil altogether??

turn the key on, 1 wire will be 12v. crank the engine, 2 wires should go to 12v iirc.

i have 3 wires that connect to the coil. a red black and brown the red wire and black wire goes to the dizzy and the brown wire goes back to the wiring loom

you either have no earth from or no live to the coil. you should have the thick black and red wires which go to the dizzy then two twin wires to the coil as well :d

have you got the thin wires on the wrong connections? just a simple check, and i have never heard of a brown wire from the coil  i have a black one and a green one

Trendall

no they are both on the right way the brown wire looks like an earth wire but it hides somewhere in the loom. i will check the multimeter tomoz morning and see if there is power to the coil. if so ill try tinkering around with the dizzy and rotor arm to see if i knocked anything out of place or something. thanks again for the help. ill update tomoz what the problem was and how it was fixed for future refernce

basicly after all the pain in the ass of cleaning everything the brown wire from the coil to the dizzy had been cut a tiny cut that you could barely see after closer inspection the wire inside had broke so i had no earth wire.... i feel like such a plank now spending hours yesterday looking at everything. thank you all for your help much apperciated :)
