first off at the nats day i had a blowing exhaust manifold.... i snapped a stud off when i fixed that, but soldiered on.......

then i blew my head gasket.... and ordered a payen gasket set for an E16SE from my local decent motor factors..
and i pulled my engine apart this morning to fit my other head & also do all those jobs i've been meaning to do, like cambelt, water pump, and a tidy up for billing.

and the sodding inlet gasket is SQUARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have a drive full of bits!!!

and i can't put it back together... i can't cut the gasket because it is completely different & there would be bits missing......

there, rant over..... i needed to tell it to someone who understood what i was angry about.... the missus & kids neither know or care

Almost all E16SE gasket sets have the wrong inlet gasket, the only way to get a right one is some sort of Astra 1.6 iirc

I had the same problem :( I resorted to having to buy an inlet gasket from Vauxhall as my local motorfactor women refused to believe her "book 'O' gaskets" was wrong :wtf:

i looked round the cupboards & the cardboard bin, and there isn't a box big enough..... but i need the right one.....

i'd even get a gm one if someone can give me the part number

:( not got a part number im afraid

Altho, GM parts guys should easily be able to sort it for you :) the parts guy (Rich) at Brindley in Cannock used to have a few Nova;s so he knew the score when I asked him like lol

right, the round inlet gasket is Payen part no. jc823, it is about £2.50+vat

so I have one more problem, the bottom hose I asked for came in as Gates 3516... it is not going to fit my car..

i bought a 1.6 rad off JohnH & the bottom outlet is a couple of inches higher up than on my old one, which was a 1983 1.2 full height rad, and the gates hose looks like it is a perfect fit for that...
