Has anyone done this? How effective is it? I've 4 porus heads and it'd be a shame to dump them.

External mod is basically using a solid tube instead of hollow in the gallery?

no its not, the end are tapped and pluged with grub screws, then external pipe work put on

and its not that expensive :thumb:

Yeah I knew that bit I meant the actual sleeving of the hole is basically just a solid one. My head had the grub screws on the side of the head so I assume those are used?

djbrowney

yes mate the outside grub screws are move to inside behind the head bolts and larger one put in on the out side !

Not very detailed though, I mean the external pipework, are the outlet/inlets there or do they need to be drilled?

And by "the end are tapped and pluged with grub screws" is that in the middle of the head where the internal mod goes?

Seems like you lashed up the internal mods.... Maybe try again..

And (hopefully) for the last time, its not the head going porous FFS!!!!!! Its just a crack.

Ok, how would you discribe it or call it?

XE Head cracked sounds like a major fail and not remotely like whats actually gone wrong.

But it has ACTUALLY cracked. Metal going porous is a very very different failure. Yes it sounds bad, but its only a crack... if it was actually porous then it would most likely be irrepairable.

I've seen porous blocks on a dyno where at a certain operating temp the oil comes through the side as a big patch that you can wipe off and get more.

chineese Arry at the very reast can go porous, I've watched it happen lol

editted for dodgy 70's comedy effect.....

ally corrodes like hell, especially with british road salt on it....

but porosity is from crap quality control

I use tappered ally pins, knocked in and then run the braid externaly. Easy. Much prefer it than the tube method.
