Im considering taking my turbo engine out and 'downgrading' to a 1.6 8v lump. I have never been in a Nova 1.6 so i'm interested to see what peoples opinions are?

Clearly it will be much slower but as i havent driven a turbo for a year then it wont be as bigger shock. Engine will be rebuilt so it should have some poke. Main reasons are insurance and not worrying about melting a piston.

Discuss...

Why not fit a 2.0 16v, I assume the bay must be ready for it and everything and it should bring the insurance down a fair bit

I had a 1.6 8v in mine a few years ago and i loved every minute in it. I kind of regret changing it now.

i have a 1.6 gte in one of mine and with a few mods and a good gear box there a little cracker mine pulls straight to the limiter in top gear and is happy to sit there all day

TBH i think i would prefer an 8v over a 16v due to weight. I have however just got a quote based on a standard GTE and it was MUCH higher than i thought. They wanted £500 based on 5 years NCB and clean license.

I've also been driving a 1.4 8v corsa breeze for the last year and i think its quite nippy! A lightweight nova with some extra horses should be considerably quicker. Anyone got any decent quarter mile times off the top of their head on the 1.6?

Been in a couple standard GTE's and they've been real nippy. Coupled with good suspension and a overhaul of the said parts means they also handle real well.

my 1.0 base with the 1600 fitted is a great laugh. i actually enjoy the balance of it, it hangs on into corners really well with the power i've got.. i don't think i could get it going fast enough to catch me out....
