Just a quick one, do all GTE's have the strengthening plates on the tops of the turrets?
Trying to identify a genuine from a fake etc for a friend. All the GTE's I've owned do.
Many thanks,
Chris

IIRC they did
only way they would not is if its had replacement inner wings and turrets fitted without the strut tops

Thanks chaps, guessing Edd's answer is the only pheasible reason for not having them. Any other tell tale points towards proving its genuine?
put the reg into confused.com or one of those car checker websites

I like it Burgo!
Tilt and slide sunroof was fitted to all GTE and GSI cars
put the reg into confused.com or one of those car checker websites
if it's a ringer it'll still come back as a gte on the reg.

I seen a GTE with no strut top plates...In a scrappy in Paisley
Either that or a s*it hot replica
craig green

reshelled maybe?
what reg was it, possible a really early car might have escaped the factory with a non-GTE shell.
I know the early Astra GTE's had odd specced stuff like 8v seat cloth & Cav Sri steering wheel.

cmon mate, if your wanting to be a panel beater you should have seen that it had been smashed at the front AND rear, the bonet wings upper front panel inner wing and rear panel had all be replaced on that White gte, so that one doesn't count.

The one we were looking at was the black GTE on Ebay. H992HAB.
Speaking to the guy it hasn't got any chassis number on the driver's footwell, only the VIN plate on the front panel. With the turrets not being stengthened, I'm very cautious... Shame as it looks quite tidy and has a lot of potential especially at £800! I think it's a 1.2 reshell.
GTE's (and i assume GSI's) also had double skinning inner arches

You can tell by sticking your finger in here (oo-er!)

If there are no chassis numbers by the drivers seat and it looks like it's not been tampered with down there, it could have been reshelled with a new bodyshell.
My Sport doesn't have any chassis numbers only a vin plate.

mazz i never knew the chassis legs were double skined!! on the gte/gsi's and i owned mine for 3-4 years. nice info.
p.s the sri's had strut top plates and i think the diesels did.
there were actually were quite a few extra bits'n'bobs done to the shells to beef up the suspension mounting points on gte's i think it was because they intended to go rallying with them from the start.
pull the carpets up and see what colout it used to be is another good one......
but the factory sunroof is the biggest giveaway
they also should have the little nipples down the side for holding on the skirt clips

Forgot all GTE's had a factory sunroof, pretty obvious and silly of me! Must be a reshell then, NO SUNROOF...
Thanks guys.
I thought some early GTE's didn't have a sunroof or electric windows?
Could be wrong though, so don't quote me!!
the homologation ones or the groupN ones would be, but they will be e/f reg, won't they
i have a mk1 opel corsa a gsi with no electric windows or sun roof and its a genuine one 88 reg
the uk models were always upmarket ones, 88 is early, so it could be one of the homologation ones, and maybe eire models didn't have the sunroof fitted...... you chaps don't get too much sunshine at the best of times
ha ha your dead rite there nice today here all the same mine is a german import lhd
as you have posted more than 15 times now, get some pics up.....

Not 100% of them.
Dont hold the sunroof as gospel, but they all had strut tops so Im told.
Theres a 1 owner F reg GTE floating round here, no sunroof.
But, it maybe a reshell etc?

bit off topic BUT can the strengthening turret bits be purchased and maybe spotwelded?
