thought it was a mk3 i may be wrong but yes i saw when the chassis leg was cut out
mk2, they go in mk3 easy iirc
We've been looking at 9000 2.0 & 2.3 Turbocharged motors, apparently they can run with an F20 & F28.
Yeah, not sure if a adapter plate is needed, but the V6 vectra's run a saab box.

Apparently they bolt straight on
Its prob true, i can imagine the 4cylinder ones do.
Where's sloth when you need him.

If it was a std engine the chassis leg shouldn't have been touched.
The Saab GM900 is a Mk3 Astra... With a few tweaks.
B204, F23... Win
Which one??
B204I: 177 Nm @ 4300 rpm 130 hp (97 kW) @ 5500 rpm10.1:
B204E: 219 Nm @ 3600 rpm 154 hp (115 kW) @ 5500 rpm9.2:1 - 0.40 bar
B204L: 263 N·m @ 2100 rpm 185 hp (138 kW) @ 5500 rpm9.2:1 - 0.73 bar
B204R: 280 N·m @ 2200 rpm 200 hp (150 kW) @ 5500 rpm9.2:1 - 1.00 bar
they are all the same, its the map in the ecu thats different.
ignore the b204i, its n/a

Basically my mates blown his XE up in his Corsa GSi & found a pair of SAAB turbo motors in our local scrappy, a 2.0 & 2.3 an we're just a bit curious of the possible outcome if he got one of said engines like.

err R duhhhhh :p
internals are good for 400bhp. The Z22SE manifolds fit should you need to, and that means you could supercharge it instead of turbo to free up some rear space, but perhaps have to cant the engine over lol
Theres a chap on mk3oc with a Saab Turbo, can't recall his user name but his actual name is nige...
they are all the same, its the map in the ecu thats different.

Ok cool I assumed more physical difference, so the 204R would be our friend then? Any possible immobiliser problems we could possibly encounter when wiring it in??
Imobliser is same as vauxhall stuff if its got one afaik.
Mike have a read of that astra thread, i doubt it would fit in a corsa without effort.

Already read it boss, was noseying at it whilst he was building it like.
Effort aint really a problem tho, more being arsed to actually do it is lol lol
Chip on vauxsport is putting a B204 in to replace his lunched let.... hes got a cracked ecu etc to play with. Might be worth having a peek at what hes doing (I know its in the back but most of the stuff should be applicable)
R has a different turbo to the E and L iirc.
They're also rare as the proverbial, pretty sure they only featured in cars for one or two years. I, E and L are way more common.
DI cassette FTL btw.

Hhhmmm, odd. Maybe the full pressure turbo lump is different where the water pump is, See Niges, which is low pressure turbo..

Fits and bolts up like a Gm (mostly is) block.

The mk4 round here had the leg altered, but IIRC this was for power steering.
Kinda cool, but its like everything, its been done.
BANG FOR BUCK its ace though.
if you have t5suite, you can turn the immobilizer off. mike, if i was you, i'd buy a full donor. you ideally want a post 93 900, as the engines sump is shallower. there is 2 corsas that have the saab engine, one is a b, the other a c. the b had a decent beice of chassis leg trimmed. i did have pics but they have gone awol. it does bolt to a f20 IF you get a post 93 motor. id aim for a 94 or 95 model year, and buy the full car. makes life easy, and astra mk3 nerds will buy the hubs and shafts and arb and beam. if i was you, id look on uksaabs, and download t5suite. then all you do is make or buy a cable, and solder an 8 pin d/l connector to the ecu board. you power it up on the bench and t5 suite takes the eprom maps, and allows you to upload a map of your choice. for example, if you want stage 3, no matter what engine you start with, you need a 3 bar map, a freeflow 3 inch exhaust and a free flow air filter. this gives 330bhp, and is already included into the t5suite.
its like everything, its been done.go fit a tank engine rather than a let then.....

Why?
All I said was its been done.
Think of something that hasnt?
ffs, everthing has been done before.
z20let incl the f23 box in a corsa a (guy i know is building that)
6 in line carlton engines into corsa a has been done before
xe/ne/let/v6 etc etc. it's all been done before.
now go and fit a monaro engine into youre nova.

Who care if stuff has been done before....
There is one thing I'm 99% sure hasnt been done yet, and really should be done!
I can think of a few things that haven't been done yet either.

a 16leh engine running 20leh internals, fairly sure the turbo internals can be swapped too
David.
/\ hows that work? the 1.6 is small block, the 2.0 is bigblock? so back o.t, mike, if i was you, i'd pull the motor out the corsa, get the f20 and mounts ready, bolt the b204 to it, and try to fit it. iirc where the seam is at the top of the chassis leg is, you cut along the seam. i will try to make a pic....
i've been wondering about fitting some other engine in mine..... like a k series..... v6.. all the fun of a gm one with loads less weight... and they are also fitted in kias.... so cheap too
evo engine and box in a nova......
mmmmmmm
Bigass diesel engine, so I can make more smoke than usual lol

Them new 1.9 diesels chip to 200bhp, with like 280Ibft of torques.
So, that let performance, and 45mpglol

Yeah Astra 150 bhp 1.9cdti or VW PD150/130 engine in a nova.200bhp when mapped and a **** load of torque and good fuel economy.

bmw v12
Kinda cool, but its like everything, its been done.
As usual completely missing the point......
If i wanted to do something that hadnt been done, Id drop a piano on your face.
The basic goal is: Fix this sack of cak GSi. And just so happens we've found a couple of SAAB motors.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Mike again. :(

mike, save matt being a homo, pm me man.
Well basically me an ar kid are now at loggerheads wether to just slot a cheap XE in or chuck a cheap SAAB blower motor in :S
Poosticks :(
Only thing thats bugging me is the cheapness & availability of performance parts for XE motors......

To get it up to the standard output of the saab?
To get it up to the standard output of the saab?
Well not really, just to get that bit more umph outta it like (180bhp ish) BUT saying that, for what it would cost to get that power from an XE you could easily buy & SAAB turbo motor (£200ish)
Well not really, just to get that bit more umph outta it like (180bhp ish)
So whats the point in considering it as easier/cheaper to modify when your performance/£ is in the saab motor, the only thing that would put most people off is the skills required to fit it, which you most likely have, or can at least break out the superglue and chewing gum and pretend you have lol

Thing is, if we go SAAB its over 300bhp or nothing. Why chuck a different marque engine in & not tinker further is my thinking.
Hate being undecided as this will keep me awake all bloody night now thinking :(

tbh for you the choice is obvious SAAB imo, you don't *have* to tinker with it, so choosing a vaux engine for more pennies and less power makes no sense. If you must justify it with further tinkering it can always be "in the pipework" until that tax return comes inlol
Anyone happen to know if the 2.3's fit (225bhp)
yes, but only post 93 mate. but the 2.3 has a habit of sending rods out the block, and the 2.0 revs better.

So general concensus is 2.0 charged motor then??
heres the pic, the red line is where the leg needs reshaping, the blue is the chassis leg. i'd open the leg, weld some 1x2 box in along the length, and reshape it.

^ nice one :)
You have PM, Im guessing the engine your reffering to is the classic "red top" 2.0 SAAB motor then??
ffs, everthing has been done before.

those K series are all alloy arnt they? and they do like to twist their heads lol
the donor i mean is called a ng900, it came afte the classic 900.
so a 93 9000 cs turbo is the correct engine?

TBH mike with your rally background stuff like engine conversions should be like a piece of piss. Like a punter seeing a well used working girl. Lube her up and anything will fit in any hole with the right mounts and a bit of force.
jimbo, should be, you need to check the bellhousing.
rick, **** the lube go in dry.....
why what am i looking for on the bell housing?
you need to make sure it looks like a vauxhall bell housing. or the plate on the end of the engine looks like a vaux engine.
Having done a Saab conversion into a mk3 astra and plenty of xe novas I wouldn't reccomend putting a Saab lump into a nova,
they are significantly heavier than an xe and will really affect it's handling IMO
getting it in and running is one thing getting it to handle is another
if you are going to use a Saab lump you'll need to run an abs sensor and a pulse modifier from Dom on mig as the Saab ecu needs a speed input,
I ditched the Saab ecu (and coil on plug arrangement) and used megasquirt and coilpack

Thing is I want to get it right first time round as neither of us want the hassle of putting engines in only to find its the "wrong one" (so to speak) resulting in shed loads more work then we intended or wanted. Basically after the easiest way possible kinda thing.
STT its not going in a Nova anyway :wtf:

still an egg lol
why not use the saab gear box?
its a lot more substantial than the f20 etc?
Still think the handling defecit form the extra (at a guess) 40kg wont outweigh the benefit of cheap saab power!
if you do decide to go down the saab route make sure you get a complete car - it will make your life soooo much easier!
mike, if the corsa is already xe'd cut the fukking leg and fit it man :d
40kg extra over an xe is nothing, a let will be that much heavier anyway.
there was a silver corsa b (c2ben i think) at pv that had a saab lump in it
He did a lot of runs at the end of the day on sunday,
looked like he had solid rear suspension and very little travel up front!
