I've always thought having a spring between the beam and chassis leg with a separate damper is a good combination.

But I want some GAZ coilover kit and as you know the spring is wrapped around the shock. So, does this have any major impact on the handling, does it add more stress on the turret?

etc etc

yes it improves handling
yes it adds more stress stitch welding the turret is advised
and sometimes they dont fit

Adds more roll stiffness compared to the bump stiffness, which is what you want.

Handles much better with. Yes it adds stress on the turret, i'd weld around the turret min just for a bit of added strength. Add a welded in rear brace while your at it and you'll love it.

Also, make sure you ""perswade"" the inner tub in, as they rub:(

Adds a LOT more stress on the damper bottom point on the rear beam too, as thats now holding the weight of the rear end, whereas before the spring seat was

and sometimes only when off the ground...when put back on the floor they clear.

Same goes for Avos/spaz'z etc too not just GAZ's

+/- 5mm tolerance on the back end.... thats a LOT of tolerance!

Can anything be done to add more strength?

Make some 3mm thick plates that match the lower mounting point on the beam where the shock bolt goes through and weld them on like a second skin!:thumb:

Like the pic below, not my car (abit overkill but makes my point)!
